Oh no. The rich and wealthy will always be able to afford the cadillac plans so they will be able to pay a little extra and not have to bother with the added red tape. So wealthy Canadians who want to pay the extra money for faster service will be able to do so.

Man, are you ever funny.

It's true though.

Yeah I know, so what changes then, I thought you'd all be lining up in Soviet style hospitals.

Truth is, nothing changes except about 32 million people are able to buy private insurance with subsidies from the government.

No take over, no socialized medicine, in fact you could make the argument that this expands private health care.

.....and gee whiz, would you look at that, health care stocks are up.

You continue with the fear talk though....it's amusing.;-)

Juan - I don't understand it that well either - only the parts that I have had to deal with - or my husband's years back but he was covered under military and was
treated well.

The only thing which confuses me about what litle pieces of the new Plan I have heard or read about:

Children (?) up to age 26 will be covered under parental plans.... many people are independent and married with children at age 26 - but they don't explain if spouses are covered and children of the children?

It is such "guvspeak" I think meant to sound hopeful and happy but it is one of those bafflegab little teasers they put in things to get people all excited about the benefits to come....but with good fortune may never have to exercise and put into full force because so many at 26 are working, finished formal educations, covered under company plans....and generally healthy medically speaking...etc.

There is a huge disparity in returning veterans - especially those who have been in any foreign wars - they are not very well treated - only the ones who receive the eyes and ears of the press where great long articles of positive news can be created. We never hear of the people who are warehoused waiting to die.

Perhaps they will soon come up with another bill of Euthanasia choice to speed the process and avoid long lines in the halls..... Oregon already has a process by which people can put an end to their medical suffering. Perhaps other states will follow depending on what kind of health care finally makes it to the regular people who
will be participants.

Please bear in mind I am not an expert - only paying half hearted attention to what is not fully disclosed yet and honestly thinking in a negative mode. I would like to hope but am afraid to.

Did you? I know you guys do but we don't.

Buy or else.

More welfare, more dependency. Subsidies means what? More taxes.

Mandates, higher premiums (no wonder why stocks went up), Increased IRS powers. Nothing to see here. ;-)

Insurance likes to kick dependents off family health plans as soon as possible. I think they can cover them through college but if they aren't in school an 18 year old ( I think, not quite sure. It could be 21) is on his own.

I know that as soon as I joined the Marines I was off my parents health care plan as I was covered by the military. When I was discharged I had to find my own. I got on a health care plan when I got my first job.

Children up to 26?
I kind of chuckled when I saw that but then I thought of our son when he was at university getting his masters degree. We were able to tack him onto our plan for a couple years.

I've been reading everything I can find on Obama's bill and it looks like the impact is not going to be that dramatic. Those thirty million (almost the population of Canada)who had no health care insurance will now have it.
There will be a gnashing of teeth in the health care insurance offices but they will fall in line and in a few years the lumps will be smoothed over and a lot of people will wonder what all the fuss was about.
I could be completely wrong but that is what it looks like.

They have upped the "child coverage" under parents' plan to 26. I choked when I saw that one - but some kids may still be in school or involved in some kind of
training which offers no health care. That would make sense to have an umbrella with their family and I hardly think there are enough "qualified" to take advantage of the situation. I think it is just a "gap filler" but I could be wrong - I often am.

If I was still at home at 26 my dad would have packed my bags and helped me out the door! haha

Admire you taking on reading that huge document - but your technical mind will have no trouble deciphering it. I become a whining diva when I go near the plan...
I just hope I can maintain my own paid-for self coverage in a status-quo position.

I can maintain prevention, regular check ups, electronic scans and the usual stuff
but if I have any "heroic" type surgery necessary I doubt if I will be able to handle it without some kind of add-on plan which would be expensive.

I still don't know if they plan to allow undocumented people the same health care - it they asked them to take out their papers, it might encourage them to do so if they want coverage....but I have yet to hear of people being turned away because of their resident status - especially childbirth.

Also there are many travellers from outside the U.S. visiting on vacation - I know Canadians have little problem getting health care here while travelling or vacationing during the "snowbird" months, but am not certain what people from other countries do -

Trouble with that kind of situation is the people flood emergency room services because they have no family doctor, no regular check ups..... some clinics operate during the year but when bad things happen...the ER must foot the time, space and the bill too.

Ahem when you get deep into the plan you might want to pack some lunches ahead of time !!

Insurance companies like to get the children off their parents plans ASAP.

I was out the door at 18.

I suspect they've looked at the stats and have seen a major problem with underinsured age 18-26. Yes, perhaps the insurance companies want them off the books but how do they get back on?

Nothing changes? What are you talking about? It is Armageddon, it is the end of civilization as they know it in USA. USA is about to be turned into a third world country, with people dying in the street for lack fo health care.

At least so say the conservatives.

I guess I can start calling them comrad then...brothers in arms.

Well, Rush Limbaugh is going to go to Costa Rica the next time he needs medical care (Costa Rica has fully socialized medicine, incidentally). I assume other conservatives will also go abroad next time they need heath care (not to Canada though, Canada is even more of the Devil's armpit than USA).

I would think most of them will have their own insurance once they turn 21. But for whatever reason (unemployment, education, disability etc.) if somebody is still living with his parents, he will be included in the parent's policy until he turns 26.
