I always laugh when it's referred to as 'defense spending' in relation with the U.S military. What defense? It's all offensive.

If you have access (they are supposed to available on request) to the combined Congressional Records you can start to total up the amounts the Congress has approved fro Wars beginning in 1989. The totals are far greater than this amount advanced for us to look at. The primary reason for the US Fiscal Crisis is War Dept spending. My adding machine tells me it is $4.6 Trillion. Enough said?

It's the cost of freedom don't ya know.

We'd all be speaking German if it wasn't for all this spending. Ask jlm, he'll tell ya.

Those figures be it $3.7 Trillion or $4.6 Trillion aren't really carved in stone. Everyone of the troops is billed to a project # every day, so regardless of whether there was a war or not they would have run up some cost- probably not $4.6 trillion but still a substantial amount plus there has to be some assessment annually for the security and safety of U.S. citizens. Let's use the figure of $2 billion for sake of argument equals about $180 a day per person plus all the infrastructure saved. Is your life worth $180?

I wonder how much longer they can keep it up.

as long as other nations are prepared to loan them funds. without borrowed funds and given the massive debt accrued ; , much of the fancy war equipment could soon be lying around rusting and polluting the planet.

Nothing lasts forever.... and given how old the US is........it has raced through a lot in its short history and yet learned nothing about BUDGETING

Talk about living and spending in a fantasy bubble. Don't think , even with current economic woes.....the reality has really hit home yet .

If they had to choose between food for the population and their military .......it is no idle question to consider what they would select.

Send the bill to those who profit from or endorse it. That will put an end to those wars and pronto.

absolutely !! Suddenly "war" would be an ugly word.

Hmmmm... another obsessive thread. Someone must be feeling insecure about where they are from and what they are not.

Sad really.

indeed. and if it were not for those Canuks playing a humongous role in that big war.......the USians could not be boasting about how glorious a win they had. To listen to them.........you would think they won that war single handedly .

Now......is there someone on here that wants to discuss "insecurities" It is a very insecure population that has to boast about everything it does, gloat about all its percieved successes and achievements. (not saying that there have not be some pretty good stuff coming from said insecure nation-credit where credit is due. ) It is a very insecure nation that is constantly attention seeking and believing that it is the centre of the universe.

but , it cannot help itself........so much compassion must be shown as well as understanding about how it got that way.

And we must remember that in the larger scheme of things........the said nation (USA) is still a toddler in comparison to the long and established histories of most other nations. And in the last decade has been truly acting out that terrible twos stage of development.

No offense , just some observations....;-)

....
Canada too goes through spurts of growing pains as it too is young. It just handles its learning curve differently..

Oh my... is someone claiming victory here? All of a sudden you are somewhat taking credit when you perceive this as a "win".

The only other Yank who claimed victory and victory for Obama was your bf Gopher.

Looks like I hit the spot. Is Breezy feeling a bit insecure?
