That probably is the reason, but other religious people swear the oath and Israel does not require them to change religion. Guess the big problem is that a non Jew could never be Prime Minister.
...Israel's system of classification deems Said Rhateb to be a resident of the West Bank - somewhere he has never lived - and an illegal alien for living in the home in which he was born, inside the Jerusalem boundary. Jerusalem's council forces Rhateb to pay substantial property taxes on his house but that does not give him the right to live in it, and he is periodically arrested for doing so. Rhateb's children have been thrown out of their Jerusalem school, he cannot register a car in his name - or rather he can, but only one with Palestinian number plates, which means he cannot drive it to his home because only Israeli-registered cars are allowed within Jerusalem - and he needs a pass to visit the centre of the city. The army grants him about four a year.
There is more. If Rhateb is not legally resident in his own home, then he is defined as an "absentee" who has abandoned his property. Under Israeli law, it now belongs to the state or, more particularly, its Jewish citizens. "They sent papers that said we cannot sell the land or develop it because we do not own the land. It belongs to the state," he says. "Any time they want to confiscate it, they can, because they say we are absentees even though we are living in the house. That's what forced my older brother and three sisters to live in the US. They couldn't bear the harassment."...
Arab Israeli barred from Public Sector employment...Dr Kanaaneh said no Arab had ever risen above the position of sub-district physician he held two decades ago. Although the health ministry had the largest number of Arab employees of any ministry, he said none had ever been appointed to a policy-making position.
“In fact, people in the ministry tell me things have gone backwards under recent right-wing governments.”
He added that the lack of Arab policymakers in government had concrete consequences that damaged the Arab community. When he worked in the health ministry, he noted, the Arab infant mortality rate was twice that of the Jewish population. Two decades later the ratio of Arab to Jewish infant deaths, rather than declining, had increased by a further 25 per cent.
The prejudice faced by educated Arabs seeking employment was highlighted by a survey last November. It found that 83 per cent of Israeli businesses in the main professions admitted being opposed to hiring Arab graduates....
Nearly one in four of Israel's 1.6 million schoolchildren are educated in a public school system wholly separate from the majority. The children in this parallel school system are Israeli citizens of Palestinian Arab origin. Their schools are a world apart in quality from the public schools serving Israel's majority Jewish population. Often overcrowded and understaffed, poorly built, badly maintained, or simply unavailable, schools for Palestinian Arab children offer fewer facilities and educational opportunities than are offered other Israeli children. This report is about Israel's discrimination against its Palestinian Arab children in guaranteeing the right to education.
The Israeli government operates two separate school systems, one for Jewish children and one for Palestinian Arab children. Discrimination against Palestinian Arab children colors every aspect of the two systems. Education Ministry authorities have acknowledged that the ministry spends less per student in the Arab system than in the Jewish school system. The majority's schools also receive additional state and state-sponsored private funding for school construction and special programs through other government agencies. The gap is enormous--on every criterion measured by Israeli authorities. ..
Is a thief being generous when they offer to return some of the money they stole?
Jonathan Kay on Muslim anti-Semitism: A hate reaching back 1,400 years | Full Comment | National PostAli Baba is a fictional character. A thief who stole from thieves.
Ali Baba - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
If this story is applied to the current situation in Israel and the occupied territories, the Palestinians would be the original victims of the original theft. Israel would be the 40 thieves. No Ali Baba like character exists to steal from Israel, what Israel stole from the Palestinians. But the Palestinians have about as much chance getting back their stolen property as the unknown victims who were originally robbed by the 40 thieves in the fictional story.
The Palestinian story is about 60 + years of injustice and oppression, mostly at the hands of Jewish refugees fleeing the horrors of Nazi Europe in the 1930's and 40's and their descendants. The actions of these refugees who suffered centuries of injustice and oppression prove that human nature has a dark side. Its human nature to steal and subject others to injustice and oppression if we believe we can get away with it. That's why people did these things to Jews and why some Jews do the same things to Palestinians.
Anyone who supports the Zionist state of Israel is either willfully ignorant or callous. You are no different than the people who supported all the oppression, injustice and cruelty endured by Jews. Effectively, Israel has turned Palestinians into the new Jews.

Maybe Israel should cease all hostilities against Palestinians first and allow the free flow of food, medicine and other international aid. Maybe Israel should stop committing war crimes and crimes against humanity or face the consequences from the international community. Maybe the international community should demand Israel respect international laws, treaties and conventions governing war, respect for civilians, their property and the right of war refugees to return home and or receive compensation.
I fail to see how anyone could assume Israel is genuinely interested in peace, and not interested in stealing more from Palestinians. I assume current peace talks are about theatrics.
IMO, Canada's denial of a seat at the UN security council was in part a result of our government's unshakable support for Israel's cruel slaughter in Gaza and their ongoing ethnic cleansing of Jerusalem and the West Bank.
If this is what you want, then it will be what you get. They do not want to co-exist. By the way, the UN should cease to exist in its present form also while were at it..

Muslim Policeman in Britain doesn't have to protect a Jew
No where is it said other than in the opinion that the Muslim cop doesn't have to protect a Jew. Big jump from guarding the Israel Embassy to stopping a Jew from being murdered in front of him.
Muslim policeman excused from duty at Israeli embassy - Crime, UK - The IndependentScotland Yard has defended a decision to excuse a Muslim police officer from guarding the Israeli embassy arguing that it was about "safety and risk", not "political correctness".
Reports that Pc Alexander Omar Basha had been told not to work outside the embassy in central London caused a furore yesterday and led to an internal review by the Metropolitan police.
