St. Matthew-in-the-City, an Anglican church in Auckland, New Zealand, has attracted controversy for this advertisement of the Virgin Mary with a positive pregnancy test.

The Virgin Mary is pregnant and it’s an unpleasant — even shocking — surprise.
At least that’s how she is depicted in a controversial new billboard erected Tuesday by St. Matthew-in-the-City, an Anglican church in Auckland, N.Z.

Why would this image get people all riled up?
If I was a so-called virgin and found out I was pregnant, I'd be a little surprised, shocked and upset as well.... I'd at least expect to get one orgasm before I got knocked up.... what a jip.
But I always figured the story of the virgin Mary and Jesus was one big elaborate story to cover up that she cheated on her husband.
They were married, yet she was still a virgin.... obviously something wasn't working in the sack for one of them, and my guess is it was Joseph who was having the problem, so she decided to head out and have a big swinger's gangbang orgy, got knocked up and when her husband found out..... "Oh, an angel came to me one night and told me I was impregnated by the holy spirit and we're to raise this child as the next savior of mankind."
Beats telling the truth and getting stoned to death in a ditch..... yet that one little lie ended up creating the vast religion we all know today which has caused so much crap.
She should have just admitted the truth, got stoned and the world would have been a better place.
I wonder what Jerry Springer would have to say about the above?

The Trinity did not come from Judaism nor did Jesus talk of a trinity. It came from Pagaism, polythesic by way of Constantine to Christianity which began monothesic. Jesus denied being God, He admitted to being the Son of but not God. But then are we not all sons and daughters of God?? Unless producing beings out of dirt, is more valid than being born of woman. Everywhere in the Old Testament, in many different ways, One God is mentioned. " No other God, before or after,"" No other God before Me," etc.

See Goober, this is how cliffy really isn't any different than mhz or alleywayz. His definition or understanding of "God" is the right one and anyone that believes differently is just plain wrong. He's just as closed minded and intolerant as those he rails against.

I would say it served it's purpose.
It's really too bad when unable to come up with a half way decent contribution, the debate is abandoned in favour of personal attacks. Amazing how some rarely seen during reasonable debate dive right in mud slinging.
Retired, the picture isn't a fake. It is a billboard and very real.
Today, would even the most naive adult believe a young, poor female, if she claim to be impregnated by god?? Not very likely!! I don't believe, even the tribal barbarians in the time of Jesus would have either. But hey, that embelishment (my opinion) makes a much better story to pass down. However, it does make a cuckold out of Joseph, doesn't it? Didn't do Mary any favours either, she comes off as rather a loose woman.

It neither makes Joseph a cuckold or Mary a loose woman. Both Mary and Joseph were visited by an Angel, a messenger of God. Elizabeth, John the Baptists Mother, was Mary's cousin and she had told Mary that she would be so blessed.
If you're going to comment on things from the Bible, it would be best for you to actually know what you're talking about rather than just puking all over the thread.
This happens every year at Christmas and at Easter. The Christian haters come out of the word work and do all they can to denigrate 2 of the most important celebrations of Christendom. The Birth and crucifixion of our Lord Jesus Christ.
How nice that all Mary's relatives supported her according to the biblical story, but offering that as proof along with the visitation of a mythical being (Angel) doesn't really support impregnation by an invisible being. It does prove great imagination. I probably know more about the bible than you do, including the history of how it came to have the form it has today. Personally, I don't really care what you believe. However, I do not accept, quoting an contradictory, unreliable, and impossible piece of fiction as proof of fact.
Because I disagree with someone's belief does not make me a hater of the believer. Actually in the case of the deluded, it is pity not hatred that stirs my emotions. My views are the same at Halloween as they are at any other time of the year. I don't believe in
ghouls, or the walking dead, vampires, fairies, santa or the easter bunny either. I suppose this should stop me, in your opinion, from pointing out discrepancies between these beliefs and fact as well??

You could go right ahead and do that. It would mean nothing to me. What I object to is the denigration, especially around this time of year. Denigration of a faith that non believers really don't have a clue about.
When the church put up the billboard they did it to stimulate conversation and controversy. It would seem that they were successful.
