The guys reflection in the tachometer, can't this be blown up into a high resolution to see who is driving the bike..

With today's technology, it seems possible..

Even with the helmet on, they should still be able to get some facial images..

I increased the YouTube to full screen and you can sorta see.. dunno..

I would like to see, getting a drivers license in Canada be much more sticker, like in Germany or some European countries. I see way to many idiots on the road daily.

I have 1.5 million plus miles under my belt as a professional driver.. and a clean CDL. Top insurance discount in BC at 40%. Now, I am going for my pilots license in June. 2012.

However, I always thought BC had the worst drivers.. now I say they have the second worst drivers in North America, the Worst is in Washington DC.

Just as clearly, this driver was EXPERT in the operation of the vehicle. There are very few cyclists who would have survived this stunt.
I was looking at some of the comments below the CBC article and saw this. In fact this driver nearly wiped out at least twice in the footage.. passing between two cars with likely less that 6 inches clearance on either side. At that speed any driver changing lanes would have been unable to maneuver out of the way as he saw him coming up in his mirror.

He was using dead reckoning in estimating the gaps in the traffic.. but at 300 kph, there is no way you can do that accurately and consistently. They would have had to suction up the long bloody smear that was left of him on the highway if he sideswiped anything.

What i object to is calling this guy a EXPERT.. when expertise is composed of intelligence, judgement, craft, respect for rules and for others.. this was just reckless stupidity and blind luck.. for him.. and for anyone who got in his way.. maybe some family with kids on their way up to Long Beach for a relaxing weekend.

The guys a born loser, he's just looking for a way not to check out alone.

How can you stand the smell.. does it not get into your homes.. geeez.

Watch CSI do we? Please tell me you're joking. Saying the words 'enhance the video' only works on TV.

He posted the video from home, what a moron. I guess we already knew that though.

I don't know what that has to do with the topic, but yeah there are a few ripe days here, usually when the farmers are planting, plowing or spraying liquid fertilizer on the crops and winds aren't blowing up the valley. Might be noticeable a few days a year. I've a family member who was into horse jumping, so i've been around stables and farms, has never bothered me.

Most people around here appreciate the work and produce the farmers provide for us.. and Chilliwack is in the centre of one of the richest agricultural belts in Canada if not the world, so why worry about small inconveniences.. Otherwise the place, at least by BC standards, is affordable, friendly and conveniently located.. for the great outdoors or the nightlife in Vancouver. :)

Actually, no I don't watch CSI.. and the words 'enhance the video' only works on TV.. really.. are you a forensic scientist now??

images are pixels, from each frame IF they can get anything from that reflection that can determine who the driver is.. and put all the information together from all the frames.. should they not be able to see who the driver is.. maybe.. just saying?? It might be possible.

Technically, they should be able to see who is riding the bike based on the reflection, in ratio to the size of the driver, position and angle of the camera, which they know where it was mounted..

Food for thought??

maybe see the full face helmet, but I doubt that they will see the driver's face

But they can determine the height of the driver, vs the mother from the reflection.

Maybe Tonington if you watched more Discovery Channel and real life CI TV to see how real crimes are solved vs TV programs.. you might learn something.

Right, I only take high res pictures of cells and parasites with microscopes as part of my job, what would I know about resolution and photo quality... You can clean it up a bit, but they wouldn't be able to get a clear view of who that is. It's a reflection, and not a very good one. It's far easier to get a decent high quality hi-resolution shot the first time than it is to try and turn a crappy photo into a slightly less crappy one.

Oh Christ.. you grow things in a petri dish, that does not make you a forensic scientist.

My sister is a Biology professor, that does not give her the expertise as a person who is a forensic scientist or forensic anthropologists with a PhD.

Forensics can determine various things, and that video on the bike, the reflection of the rider in the tachometer can give them and idea if the mother was driving or the son, based on the size and trajectory of the reflection based on the position of the rider and size.

You don't need to see the drivers face to tell if he sits 6 inches higher in the seat, or even the possible weight from the position of the bike to the horizon line.

But what do I know, I'm just a simple truck driver and don't claim to take high res photos of petri dishes (genius).. ;-) :p

You don't need to be a forensic scientist to know how digital imaging works. Durp. All the same, watching television is your solution to tacit knowledge? Ridiculous.

You can't take an image of that poor quality and process it twenty ways from Sunday to determine who it is. The amount of processing and the artifacts it would introduce would not make for very good evidence at all. That's why the cops beat a path on the ground to find who it is.

Just heard on the news his mother got pinched close to 1500 smackers- that in itself might be a lot worse punishment than any court or jail could produce!!!:lol::lol:

the owner of the motorcycle should face 'street racing' charges with a min jail sentence, the only defend should be ratting out on her son.

Do you think "ratting out" is an appropriate term for this idiocy of highly criminal proportions? It might be more appropriate for sneaking a wafer out of the cookie jar!
