You feel that TV is the Anti Christ. To some extent I agree. However, I feel the same way about You Tube. Great way to achieve ones 15 minutes of fame now that everyone carries a camera.

Oddly enough

If you are riding a bicycle, and the
police see you commit an offence
(such as failing to stop at a red
light), they can stop you.
6
If asked,
you must provide your name and
address to the police in these cir

cumstances.
7
They can arrest you
if you refuse to do so.

What if I am arrested?
If you are placed under arrest,
the police may search you, your
clothes and anything you are car
-
rying. They can also search your
“immediate surroundings”,
24
which
could include your car if that is
where you are arrested.
25
The police are allowed to search
you after you have been arrested
as long as they believe that the
search is necessary
for the safety
of the police and the public, to
protect evidence from destruc

tion, or to discover evidence that
may relate to your guilt or inno

If it was an isolated incident, I could see defending the cops, but resorting to violence is becoming common place. I think there is a bigger issue behind all this that we are not willing to even consider.
Perceptive and dead on, sir! I have watched the increasing aggression and militarisation of the police down here in South Canada for quite some time. We send SWAT teams to serve arrest warrants on people accused of non-violent offences. Example: in Northern Virginia, a SWAT team was sent to serve an arrest warrant on an ophthalmologist for allegedly running an on-line book. Result? He was "accidentally" shot in the chest and died. Punishment? The cop got a three-week suspension.

As a long time Vancouver cyclist this latest thuggery isn't at all surprising I've been threatened by the VPD more times than I can count.

Come to Boston Bill. You can ride over the tops of cars and the cops won't do anything.

I do support our police but the militarism is a bit much. They love dressing up a little too much.

I love the cops. Great gals and guys for the most part, doing a job that can get pretty unpleasant (to say nothing of dangerous) and not getting much love or money for it. But black fatigues and balaclavas? M-4s? Sending SWAT teams to serve warrants on computer-crime suspects?

It ain't the street cops, it's the HQ idiots. There are no bad troops, only bad officers.

Pigs will be pigs. VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Vancouver’s police union says officers can’t take a chance when someone resists arrests. This is in response to a YouTube video of a man being punched in the face during an arrest in Downtown Vancouver on Tuesday night.

The officer who threw the punch has been pulled from duty.

Tom Stamatakis with the Vancouver Police Union says there’s more to the story than what the video shows.
Arrested for skipping through a stop sign? Whatever happened to traffic tickets?
Punched in the face for being lippy and uncooperative? Whatever happened to adding more charges onto the ticket?
Cyclist brought it all onto himself, but the cop's reaction was excessive.

Pigs will be pigs.
Yes they will!
The officer who threw the punch has been pulled from duty.
They mean he is on a paid vacation that doesn't count as vacation time.
Stamatakis says officers are trained in what to do when someone resists arrest.
Except he wasn't resisting....but as I have said before, they are trained to be abusive and trained in what excuses to use as to why they use excessive force
“You can hear the officers giving the individual direction not to resist — to comply. They’re in the process of handcuffing him. You can see in the video, he pulls away.”
No you can't, you can hear him asking why he is being arrested and them ignoring their lawful duty to inform him....
They need to get him under control. That’s their training. It doesn’t always look great on video, but that’s the training,” explains Stamatakis.
Of course it's the training, very bad training, not to serve and protect but to rule over and force compliance without adherence to their actual lawful obligations.
“Unfortunately, in this city and across the province and the country, there have been many officers who have been seriously injured by people who are actively resisting arrest or trying to get away,” he adds, noting officers must take control of potentially dangerous situations.
They are just obviously not trained to actually identify what is a dangerous situation and what isn't.
The officer is on a weekly leave.
As a reward for punching a defenseless guy in the mouth you get a free, paid vacation

Yeah, he pulled his arm away from the cop, and tried to turn around to face him. That's called resisting arrest.

Karrie, until the officer actually says you are under arrest and informs you what you are being charged with you are not under arrest. They have lawful obligations in the situation and are trained not to adhere to them. If a cop wants me to comply then they had better act in accordance with the laws they are sworn to uphold. That means identifying themselves properly (badge & picture ID) and informing me of what I am being charged with if they want to arrest me. If they don't, I will not comply with their orders as they are not lawful.

Without going through all those bullshyte statesmen one by one , I must say that those with tunnel vision will only see what they want to see...............and no amount of evidence will ever convince them....

Don't get me wrong DaS, I know my share of cops who are decent. Two of my neighbors are cops including the top-cop in our detachment. I have had conversations with them regarding training and they are trained to violate our rights, trained to ignore lawful obligations in their duty, trained to lie about it, and not trained in diffusing a situation peaceably.

No they are not trained that way.

The Officer in my opinion informed him he was under arrest- It is just not on video. As to him asking again perhaps because his friend was recording it makes it appear that his rights were violated.

Of course it's the training, very bad training, not to serve and protect but to rule over and force compliance without adherence to their actual lawful obligations.
No it is judgement and training. Otherwise those Police Officers killed when stopping a person for speeding would have known that they had a gun and those many Officers would be alive.

They are just obviously not trained to actually identify what is a dangerous situation and what isn't.

You have a bias towards Police Officers and it is showing.

Once arrested you are required by Law to comply. He was not compliant. He got a tap upside of the head. Listen to the Officer calmly explaining to his friend that he had no problem with the recording but to let him(the Officer) do his job.
Did the guy also sound like he was drunk - Just a coincidence his friend was there to record it- One on a bike the other walking.

And he is a ex Brit Officer - highly trained Police Officers- And an award for bravery while off duty.
