You will turn blue in the face before you convert 70% of Canadians who love the charter.

You will never find a better love then mine.......................

The picture in post #21 (not worth quoting or repeating) proves beyond a reasonable doubt that then, as now, and forever: Trudeau SUCKS!

"another american mouth piece that should mind his own country rather than bashing mine."

Who do you mean by that, gerryh?

?

I see a little bit of nonsense in some areas of the stories. For example blaming Trudeau for the hyperinflation of the 1970s is quite ridiculous given the fact that it was a world wide phenomenon, and ignoring the fact that although Trudeau did add to the national debt the Mulroney government increased it even more. This appears to be a bit of cherry picking.

Trudeau was not perfect, but he at least had a vision for Canada that went beyond increasing the number of foreign owned companies in the country. It is interesting to note that Trudeau was the first PM in Canadian history that foreigners could identify without looking him up. He was also important in helping the defeat the Quebec separation referendum and in turning Canadians against the betrayal of the Meech Lake Agreement and the Charlottetown Accord.

I was projecting SirJP, Liberalman, Socrates and the rest of the lefties that hang here :p

I'm a 41 year old who spent the vast majority of his life in Alberta: there is no need to remind me about the harm he did to the country. Quebecers remember the Plains of Abraham, Albertans remember Trudeau.

I was living in Alberta when the premier of that province said let the east freeze in the dark and I feel Trudeau did the right thing that was to put the tax on the wellhead.

That's why Trudeau is my hero

But but but but He brought the Charter here: He's a GOD of gods!

And he re patriated the Constitution, so we'll give him that. The unfortunate part is that the Charter is a milquetoast watered down version of the 1960 Bill of Rights which would have given us far more protected freedoms without the loopholes that favour the government. About the only plus that was left was the presumption of innocence being extended to all statutes, and even that is again being eroded.

But those are were written by far right columnists who would turn Canada into a fascist state! Trudeau wasn't divisive and everything he did was for the long term good of the country! And everyone knows the debts and deficits were all Mulroney's fault! Or something...

I know who you are talking about ;-); they are the ones who equate right wing with fascism. I thought this a good time to remind folks that Communism, Socialism, Statism, and Fascism, to mention a few ism's, are all varying degrees of the same thing, left wing tyrannical oligarchies. Extreme right wing is evident in Somalia, i.e. no government at all, or anarchy.

I really don't care much for this guys opinion for the first article. I rather have the numbers stand for it's self.
I will want to cross refference later on.
One thing I have serious doubt is when he said the US would get rid of thier debt in 2012.......Ummm I find this hard to swallow
The article was written a while ago EB.

So does pinning the debt to Mulroney. Given it was Trudeau's policies that Mulroney failed to reverse, that lead to the mushrooming debt.

Very true and quite an accurate and more honest eulogy to the despot of Canadian history.

I never did have much use for that S.O.B. personally- maybe it's just us uncouth west coasters have a knack for seeing right through that "suave veneer".

Maybe you just aren't swayed by charisma. Or is that the same thing?

One of my favourite comments in this thread was by SJP, when he stated that people of the world could recognize PET without looking him up.

Wow, that does not an excellent leader make. For the same can be said for the likes of Bush 1 and 2, Mao, Stallen, Hitler etc.

Some of the other comments I've heard over the years, such as PET put Canada on the map. Utter BS, Canada drew her outline in blood on Vimy Ridge.

S.J.P. is known for making comments that are a little suspect..........

I agree. I was being sarcastic. lol
Then there was this bit of pure socialism, "what's mine is mine (federal) and what's yours (provincial) is also mine". Or "You dig it up, process it, and sell it and I'll take the profit and divvy it up to everyone else" :
