This is getting out of hand and who created the mess? Why Vic himself and it goes to the
danger of passing such legislation. The first guy to perhaps be the victim of attack is the
political bully who wanted to snoop on others. Although I don't think it is the best policy to
just pound on other peoples past mistakes in this case it couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
We have not come across a single pedophile but we managed to broadcast to the world that
Vic is not perfect. Of course he isn't he is a conservative.

I think continued pressure is the key here in persuading this government to do the right thing
and stop invading the private lives of law abiding citizens. There are legal remedies to catching
bad people doing bad things and a one size fits all law is not part of a democracy and never
has been. We leave those kinds of actions to fascists and over zealous religious regimes that
our own government, even this one condemns.

We might publish what is already common knowledge about Vic's divorce and that is alright but
I think we should not judge the man about his past as we did not have to walk in his shoes. A
friend of mine the other day, use a quote that they couldn't remember who said it but it goes like
this.
To Judge someone is not to define them, it defines you.
We perhaps should all keep that in mind on this one, myself included.

If it results in breaches of privacy or threats then it becomes a criminal matter and thus worthy of investigation. I don't know what all has come from this but the letter Toews sent out specifically mentioned threats to him and possibly his family.

He's just playing politics as a distraction from the bill itself.

There will have to be a very serious discussion about the bill in QP and this whole vikileaks crap needs to be put aside.

The vikileaks stuff was just a way to show the hypocrisy of the cons. Now that they've launched a full scale investigation, it pretty much highlights their true intentions of searching out for personal info., irrespective of whether or not it has to do with child pornography.

Just for the partisan hacks with serious reading disorders...

OTTAWA —The news came after the Speaker’s Office of the House of Commons started an investigation into the Twitter account, which is tied to an IP address that originates on Parliament Hill.

The cat has been out of the bag for a few days now and they have enough egg on their face.

Well they used Govt property - They may as has been alleged committed criminal acts. Why should we not know who was behind this. Is it because they were after a Conservative goof ball.

Well we should know who did this and they should have their pee pees whacked accordingly for using 'government property'. Of course it's not really a crime as it's all true and according to Toews, information like this should be readily available for public use to 'investigate' people suspected of whatever the police think is going on.
All politicians are two faced scum, so I don't care what strip they are, they are all just the same as Toews. I can assure you that if the libs get in next they will put forth the same legislation as this and tell you how it's necessary. You know this kind of thing has happened before. Look it up. I'm not your fukking google.

What is really troubling to me is this. Every single party is guilty of some discretion when it
comes to violating rules and committing technical criminal acts. This may in fact be one and
it could be New Democrats, Liberals, the Lone Green Ranger, or the Conservatives themselves.

In the past we have patronage gone wild under the Liberals, we had MP's violating the election
act by the Conservatives and perhaps and infraction by the NDP this time we will have to wait
to see who did the latest dastardly deed.

Nothing is ever done except raise the level of hot air and why is that? The reason is simple the
members on all sides of the House are totally ignorant when it comes to the actual laws spelled
out in the Queens English. Oh they know procedure and how things function but many have no
clue as to what the laws stipulated what they can and cannot do.

When you have mass ignorance instituted in the very halls where laws are made, it is little wonder
the population at large is cynical and uniformed. This has gone on for over a century and will be
going on long after are all dead.

What's criminal about posting to a twitter acount public knowledge already written about in the print media?

Methinks the minister protesteth too much! why should he get special treatment when there are literally thousands of cases of abuse of the Facebook site by everyone from disgruntled boyfriends to trolling pedophiles with police taking a very lackadaisical attitude towards investigating and prosecuting those transgressions.

It happens to a cabinet minister and everyone's panties get bunched.

Looks good on him.

If documents are sealed as per a court order is one. Not sure of how these came into whoevers possession but using Govt property for this attack, no matter how much I cannot stand Mr Wingnut the justice Minister, this form of attack using Govt property is still wrong.

Maybe other Tories could become targets of scrutiny, better still maybe past or present
leaders could become the center of attention. Remember when Stockwell Day got in
trouble when he was an Alberta MLA for saying nasty things about a lawyer who was
defending an offender for a very unpopular offence? Or the time Svend Robinso swiped
a piece of high priced jewellery? The list could go on and on with these people.
The problem is this the present government is hell bent on forcing us to conform to their
view of perfect ideals and they are not perfect themselves. I am not defending those
pedophiles either, I am merely pointing out the old saying about people living in glass
houses. Not everyone is going to be a pedophile, they might be someone who does
not like the government and they could be singled out for political attack for that reason
under the guise of something else.
Besides once a government of any stripe starts this stuff they may use it to attract both
unwarranted and unwanted attention of the Revenue Service and so on merely in
response to criticism.
This is a bad law being proposed, and there are other remedies so it should be withdrawn
and a law based on justice introduced to replace it, it is that simple. As for the above
stories about others, actually it is a bad idea, and was used as an illustration of what can
happen when people get carried away. Vic should look in his mental closet and pull out
some commons sense and withdraw this bill now.

Vic Toews' little bill is just the latest manifestation of the Conservative's war on 60 per cent of country. If they want fear-inducing and invasive warrantless e-snooping, then perhaps it's a little more than unsurprising that some might turn around and pulled their pants down in public instead.

Ouch ouch ouch.... my sides!

Toews:

My bad. I just realized (after reading your link) that this proposed bill is called the Protecting Children from Internet Predators Act. In all honesty, how can I be against protecting children. I've decided to support this legislation and ask all you child haters to support it as well.

I was listening to the House interview this morning and when they brought up the provision, Vic said it was nonsense and the first he heard of it.. the journalist then enlightened him that he was reading the section verbatim from the bill.

Talk about herpy de derp coming from the cons. You think they'd at least be competent enough to read their own bill, lol

Stop expecting politicians to have a clue about what they are doing, 99% of them don't have any idea.

Listening to Cross Country Checkup and probably a couple of dozen opinions that covered the whole spectrum. Some were adamantly opposed to it in any form, some were all for it, some thought it should be more focused on what they are trying to accomplish. One thing of interest mentioned was that if the process of getting warrants could be fast tracked more, there would be less need for it. One senior cop with years of experience was saying quite often by the time the warrants were obtained sometimes days later the bad guys had covered their tracks already.
