Minimum wage is not meant to be a live style . If there are only minimum wage jobs available in your area maybe it is time to move .
Or get more education so you can get a better job? What happens when you can't afford to move? Education is expensive. And maybe the real estate where one moves to costs more. etcetera

Maybe some of the problems start back in grade school. A lot of kids aren't taught the rudiments of planning and budgeting both of which are so important.
We always thought that was parents' responsibility and school was for learning what was needed for jobs and learning the technical aspects of jobs.

No one is forced to work for unscrupulous employers .
Yeah, no-one is forced to work. Name me a business that isn't in it for profit. They are kind of far and few between, huh? And even those far-and-few-betweens are likely small- and medium-sized Mom and Pop businesses.

Disinformation in the age of Trump: 'Meet the Press' examines the search for truth in an era of 'alternative facts'

https://www.nbcnews.com/meet-the-pr...ation-age-trump-n1108246?cid=eml_nbn_20191229
" 'if you want to propel your lie, just keep issuing falsehoods. The truth has one voice, but lies are infinite. You can continue to make more and more lies, which then wears out anybody trying to rebut them.' "
^ How Trump won the EC in 2016. His supporters actually thought his 'disinformation' was accurate and sincere. lmao He portrayed America as being full of crime and corruption so essentially it was a 'shithole country' and he was going to 'fix it'. In fact, he is simply a conman out for glory and more wealth and always has been and couldn't give two hoots about average people outside of needing their votes.

Biggest reason is to make enough for a decent living and save for a retirement. Haven't you ever wondered why most people can't afford huge families any more?
Whatcha gonna do for four days off? Unless you have several hobbies, you're going to get bored or else turn into a blob from watching tv a lot.
Exactly .

Come on I have travelled extensively through the Kootenays , It looks like a very prosperous area .Nice houses , cars in the driveways blocking their boats and trailers . Not many people appear hungry . Maybe looks are deceiving.

I know parents some in my own family who don't have a clue about planning or budgeting. How many people in their 40s and 50s borrow money to take a trip, flying to exotic places?

Very well stated........captures the essence of the shallow , manipulating con man. Interesting that he loves power but can't handle it maturely or effectively.. as he is to much of a narcissist.

Some people should just stop going to the 'higher end' places and thinking that's how everyone lives.

Maybe take a drive near broken down towns, or neighborhoods and see how most of the rest of society lives.

Not much of that in these parts , downtown east side , but that poverty is mostly societies outcasts . Even the small dying towns in the interior have nice vehicles in the driveway .

The bottom 5-10% have problems for sure, but the rest of us are living fairly high on the hog and are probably in the top 10% of the world's population. You just have to stand by the check out till in the supermarkets and observe the shit that flows past the cash register. When you have complete aisles in the stores dedicated to chips, pop and candy and another half an aisle dedicated to cookies, that tells you something! (And it ain't starvation) :)

It says that horrible foods are cheaper than the foods that SHOULD be eaten more.

As pointed out to you before, eating healthy is expensive compared to buying crap food and living on that.

If I could spend what I needed at my local store to get the right foods every two weeks, it'd cost me $200 plus to do so. That's if I could do that. I don't. I try hard to keep my spending on food down to $150 or under because I can't afford more than that.

Thankfully I do have a vehicle that allows me to travel to get better deals.

Sadly, many in this town DON'T have that luxury.

Pop and chips sure aren't any cheaper than nutritious food. Pop is just a very expensive way of buying sugar plus a little flavouring. I'd be interested in seeing the nutritional value of a large bottle of pop (1 litre) compared to two apples.

Really?

Maybe where you live it's like that - here, not so much.

It depends on what you're looking for too.

Meat is hellishly expensive, even Pork and Chicken is up there unless you get 'sale' days which are few and far between.

Veg, the same.

See, around here, there's a captive market, so locally the grocers can put their price up because they have people who will buy it at whatever price. Those people are Students and locals plus seniors without cars to travel. And soon as there's an interest in something, the price surges.

Example - salmon trimmings used to be 2 and 3 dollars a tray package. Pretty damn cheap. Now? 5 and 6 because the Asian students started buying it to make their meals. So up in price it went.

Cans of tuna? Might go on sale at 1$ a can; mostly though it's three or more a can.

Even Kraft dinner is up near 2 bucks a box.

Milk? 4$ for a 2L.

Mr. Noodles - cheap, horrible Ramen? 65cents locally.

Eggs? 3$ a dozen.

Pop? 2 small bottles for 4 bucks.

Chips? small bag of them is 175ish but two big bags might be six bucks.

Energy drink? Bout same price as a pop.

Actual juice and not a drink? 3$ for the cheap brand.

Bread? 3$ or more.

Chocolate bar? 1$ each

Sugar cereals? On sale 3$; regular 6$

Oatmeal? 6$ and rarely on sale.

Fish? Forget fish at all. Even the 10$ bags aren't worth it anymore; they used to have six or more pieces in them, now they might have four or five.

To make a really accurate comparison you have to calculate things like grams of protein/$, grams of fibre/$, grams of vitamin A,B,C,D,E. etc./$

A hundred dollars a week is a meagre food budget . If that is all wages in New Brunswick allow for it is no wonder the province is shrinking . Go west young lady .
