I would just like to add one general comment to this whole discussion................any perceived connection between a person's means of livelihood and their level of intelligence is a sure sign of crass ignorance of the person making the connection as is a connection between level of formal education and level of intelligence. One of the most intelligent people I ever knew, left school after grade 5.

My father never went to school, could barely write his own name....yet was fluent in French, English, Algonquin and Cree .

Naw us common laborers are dummies. Who'd want to bust their azz and end up with arthritis in the spine from heavy lifting or fire hemors from hours of driving sitting on yer butt. The intelligent thing to do would be to extend your formal education as much as you can in order to not suffer the consequences of being a lackey. .

I for one would never cross a picket line legal or otherwise.
If it is a legal picket line and a legal strike those behind the
line are what are known as scabs who in the end receive
benefits along with those they betrayed.
Nothing worse than being a scab when the strike ends you
lose your friends and are regarded as a parasite by everyone.

I have been on both sides as a union person and a general
manager and I will tell you management has no trust is a scab
after all if a scab will sell out his fellow workers he has no
sense of loyalty period. In many cases the management bides
time to rid themselves of scabs they are about as popular as
whistle blowers

Obviously not by the minimal standards required to be a truck driver. Don't blame me, I don't set them.

And I am still sorry BTW but you shouldn't let your hurt feelings get in the way of common sense. I mean, I think just about anybody would understand that me pointing out the low standard required to drive a truck, does not mean I think it shouldn't be higher. I think Walmart greeters should be under 100 but ultimately, it's not up to me.

I can cite one example where I did. About 25 years ago when the posties were on strike and they were blocking the post office where I had to go to get my mail. Access to your mail is a universal Canadian right which nobody has the right to impede. The guy didn't like it very much (militant a$$hole) but he got over it.

I was proud to be in the teamsters when I was 18 , loading 100 pound bags of silica sand all day in a train car where it was about 130 degrees . Making that 3.75 an hour and paying dues so Hoffa could play at least three or four rounds of golf a week.

There's only one down side to trucking - getting out of the cab

They should invent a donut style seat as to relieve the irritant on the hemors. A sitz bath in the cab might not be a bad idea either.

Did you happen to hear of Jean Chretien, while you were there? I know he was older than you, but his stunt of pretending he had appendicitis just to miss school, must have made him a kind of legend with the kids there...
I heard about it from the hotel clerk when I stayed there for a couple of days on a job related visit to their Paper mill. He had gone to school with Chretien.
With their mill now closed ...I wonder how the town is doing.....?

erm Dumptrucks GVW in BC is about 34,000 kg (that is about 35 tons).
