A look at the water quality of lakes in 'remote regions of BC' show the early miners fukked up the water forever. If there were any environmental regulations they were ignored. That is due to industry and Government working together to pull a robbery by not spending money to put the land back into a good condition after the clear-cut.
A virgin forest has no roads so right off the start there is a need to leave it in a condition that makes the next harvest much easier on the companies and the land. It is the lack of care after that caused the damage when spending a good amount will make the forest tame rather than wild so the products taken all have value.
If industry and Government wanted the wood they would just take it and leave a worse mess than usual. If the Government has a history of letting businesses in and let them operate as cheaply as possible so the owners max out the profits then they should be hit with the bill to clean it up rather than their method of leaving the mess as is and just ignoring all of it as far as 'fixing things'.

The Frazer Canyon was fukked when the road was build. the debris was pushed into the river which changed the current so fish could not use it. When a action plan sees that fixed then there might be hope that industry and Government will make the land more useful than the way they found it.

Did I say the river is pristine ? I don’t remember that . The river has two major rail lines on its banks , millions of people living in its watershed and most of their effluent is treated prior to release . Victoria on Vancouver Island 50 miles from the mouth of the Fraser releases its untreated effluent vis pipeline deep into Juan de Fuca Straight .
There are many problems with the river and man created most of them but we are doing a lot with respect to keeping the river healthy .

Ontario’s environmental watchdog says the province is allowing raw sewage to overflow into lakes and rivers at an alarming rate.

(Of course it is the responsibility of MUNICIPALITIES to ensure sewage does not overflow in such fashion! And any attempt by the province to persuade municipal civil service union Hogs that they should clean up THEIR ACT would start a political WW3!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Environmental Commissioner Dianne Saxe is raising concerns about the issue in her annual report, released Tuesday.

(This ongoing govt inaction on sewage over flows is CLEARLY A DELIBERATE ATTEMPT to avoid building more of those COSTLY sewage treatment plants!! The building of such infrastructure would cut deeply into the supply of LIE-beral Gravy!! Therefore it is easier for LIE-berals to blame “global warming” for the sh+t storms than to admit our treatment plants ARE TO SMALL for the growing population!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

The report says that between April 2017 and March this year, raw sewage overflowed into southern Ontario waterways 1,327 times from nearly 60 outdated municipal sewer systems that combine sewage and stormwater.

(There is of course NOTHING unusual about this as it has been going on for DECADES! And it is the result- in part of those “out dated” sewer systems that were DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY to dump sewage in heavy rains! And of course as our towns and cities grow- and ever more pavement is poured- the amount of run off steadily increases!)

(It is not harsher weather that is overflowing sewage systems- it is careless govt that considers that pay raises for civil service union Hogs are more important than clean water! I know of one residential area that has had 3 floods- meaning basements full of raw sewage in 5 years! But the floods CEASED just as soon as local govt built more rainwater retention ponds so storm water is released more slowly!)

Saxe recommends the province require every municipality with combined sewers to take action to eliminate overflows using measures like additional stormwater fees and building additional infrastructure.

(The City of Toronto has been discussing this separation of storm water and sewage for several decades! It would have cost a billion dollars to implement such a split in services 20 years ago when we were vastly LESS sunk in debt! And Silly Hall chose instead to spend that billion on Ataratiri- this was to be the grand new housing development in what is now called “The Portlands”! Yes- a billion dollars in 1980`s dollars to buy out and expropriate businesses and chase away jobs- only to discover The Portland are to polluted to live on!)

(But now real estate in Toronto is so costly that the original BILLION DOLLAR CLEAN UP cost looks low enough for developers to work with! And yet- why has there been so much trouble with the Sidewalk Group that is involved in developing The Portlands?)

(Should we ask if the Ford govt has begun sniffing into those LIE-beral deals and smells a LIE-beral RAT?)

Saxe says the province’s waterways are also being affected by run-off laden with fertilizer and road salt.

Yes- and is it not RIDICULOUS that The Portlands/Ataratiri is being developed at who knows what real cost to the public- when we might do better to RETURN IT to its ancient status as MARSHLAND? WE all know that marshes have a wonderful capacity to clean water! And how much would local Toronto tourists benefit from having a bird sanctuary in the Point Pelee style right down town on the bus lines?)

(Would Toronto prefer birds in a LOW COST wild life sanctuary that will also enure that less sewage and other contaminants end up their beaches on hot summer days? Or would they prefer another Regents Park MONEY PIT- with govt and developers working together to produce mixed housing - some “affordable” and some geared to market- and the city is holding all the usual cost over runs while the developer is apparently doing nicely according to some news reports!)

(Councilors at Silly Hall think my questions about developer profits and city hall cost over runs versus having a low cost and scenic wild life sanctuary are silly! They think huge cost over runs are a good way to conduct business!)

(Would Toronto prefer birds in a LOW COST wild life sanctuary that will also enure that less sewage and other contaminants end up their beaches on hot summer days? Or would they prefer another Regents Park MONEY PIT- with govt and developers working together to produce mixed housing - some “affordable” and some geared to market- and the city is holding all the usual cost over runs while the developer is apparently doing nicely according to some news reports!)

(Councilors at Silly Hall think my questions about developer profits and city hall cost over runs versus having a low cost and scenic wild life sanctuary are silly! They think huge cost over runs are a good way to conduct business!)

The report also notes that provincial standards on toxic waste poured into waterways haven’t been updated in 25 years.

(No- Toronto Silly Hall WOULD NOT want to update such standards even if you held their feet in the fire! One MAJOR REASON Silly Hall USED TO GIVE for not dredging the lower Don River in order to prevent flooding on nearby Don Valley Parkway was because there was so much heavy metal in the silt that such dredging would stir it up and result in it entering our drinking water- with harmful consequences!)

(But of course the City is now DESPERATE for more gravy and there will no longer BE ANY PROBLEM dredging down there any longer! Toronto Silly Hall desperately wants the new flow of gravy from Ataratiri/The Portlands!)

(And the sewage problem? LIE-berals DO NOT CARE!!!!!!!!)

When I was a kid there was a story going around of a family who switched over from their septic tank to the city sewer system and shortly there after their well went dry!

There are several marine protected areas. Far as I know they are not off limits for fishing and whale watching. The two things that cause the most marine damage.

Yes and no . Whale watching can be intrusive , but I really don’t think it is that big of a deal unless they are interfering with the hunt . Watching the southern whales herd salmon is amazing , but not nearly as crazy as seeing them play catch with a seal or dolphin.
As for the fishing , commercial ground fishing is banned and we are seeing a resurgence of halibut in the Gulf of Georgia and other rock fish are starting to recover . Not all is doom and gloom .

There are still pipes leading directly from house to river in B.C. but sadly most are on reserve land but they have been pissing in their downstream neighbours water for like ever .
