Plus if you look at the pics Eagle posted the one with the SUV has the hos curling under the vehicle only to then come back out and up through the windows....but they couldn't go under it.

Take another look at the pics. You will see a 6" outlet staring you in the face pointing to the rear of the vehicle where they could have easily run the hose without damaging the car. Face it, this was intentionally done to create damage and not for ease or expediency.
Well then, I'm sure the court will agree and make the city pay for repairs to his car.

I highly doubt that. It is a circumstance where being a complete c*nt is quite legal even if they don't have to be. Morally it is reprehensible to smash a $50,000 car when not really necessary but they get a legal free pass because of the fire. I'm certainly not promoting parking by a hydrant, I never would, but there really should be some kind of mitigation of damages required. This situation should not be turned into a free-for-all car-smashing rampage by public servants is all I'm saying. I hope he at least gets the ticket tossed out. No need to rub salt in the wounds.

How come there are two different cars? Were they both blocking the hydrant?_

Do you think they should increase the fines or have some other form of penalization that would stop people from parking in front of firehydrants? There seems to be a lot of pictures on the internet of various cars having their windows busted and the hose put through.

I didn't realize there were so many douche bags parking in front of fire hydrants until this story.

Don't blame me. I voted for Ron Paul the first time, and for Romney the second time.

I miss Ron Paul, sure wish he could be president!

Just as many as there are parking in handicapped stalls or too close to corners or taking 2 spots. I hav no problem with making the fine quite hefty, say $500-1000, because it is a matter of preserving public and private property and sometimes lives. That doesn't mean I condone doing $5000 worth of damage to somebody else's private property to prove a point when there is another viable option for routing the hose. If there is absolutely no way to go over, under or around it then sure, smash the glass, but that should really be the last resort, not the first option.

I get that. Maybe they could even have a fine as well as something else. Maybe community service in a hospital burn ward or in a firehall. Something that would also bring home the necessity of compliance rather then just paying a fine and letting them ride off into the sunset pissed they`re car was damaged.

Give the culprit a few hours worth of hose drill. I guarantee it isn't as easy as the firefolk make it look. Then loan him/her the tools to fix the car - and nappies to soak up the water. It's not likely insurance will cover the damage.

I can get on board with that. Definitely worthwhile punishment.
