what astounds me is the cult like behaviour of the senate. They are so scared of Trump that they would give up any independent thought, degree of professionalism, & individuality This is very revealing about them as a group.........and how Trump affected they all are. History will not look kindly on them........and nor it should. This has not been a trial of any kind..... and quite embarrassing to watch. These are supposed to be mature, responsible, people who operate with clear and objective minds................but they have shown a side of the USG to the world that it is biased, deplorable and amateurish. The POtus three amigos........seemed to function in some alternate reality.
Now Trump can just pardon himself......and resume HIS status quo........of corruption and psychopathy. One could say that democracy took a big hit today........white authoritarianism got stronger via Trump.

Lindsay Graham said it best on 05/03/2016 when speaking of the GOP he said "If we nominate Trump, we will get destroyed and we will deserve it." He too is up for re-election this year, will those words come back to haunt him?

They're scared of Trump.

They're scared of his mean tweets.

And, in the end, they're scared that they won't be re-elected.

Politicians are cowards.

Didn't you know that?
Sorry, bones.......Not good enough.

Don't think the founding fathers in the US......or the original politicians in CDA were cowards as they designed a working plan for the respective nations. They had vision, courage, and careful risk takers ..........as they had to..........Politicians have been corrupted ...........and this is evidenced in recent history........ They are easily bought........ and have no integrity or ethics..and gall inline with group think

The last election was questionable...........but this comingone is even more so.........as when Trump can so openly ask favors to getting him elected...........one can only imagine what he will do outside the public eye. No one can honestly say that the election is going to be fair and without tampering. FACT: Trump is corrupt.......and always has been. He can do what he wants and lets his legal teams deal with the mess he creates.

It's the natural devolution of politics. The smartest American ever, Mark Twain, put it best. . .

"The only native American criminal class is Congress."

It's also worth noting that none of those "Founding Fathers" except George Washington and James Monroe could be arsed to pick up a musket and get stuck in.

Yes, the short game has been won by Trump, the long game is yet to be played. This election is going to get very ugly. 23 Gop Senate seats are also up for grabs this November, will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Looking at it from today's perspective looks quite formidable, but by November you can bet the perspective will change. :)

Exactly!!! And that suggests a big problem that has permeated the USG..........the ugly virus of Trump. He is sadistically cruel ........and that is how he has control over them. Isn't that how authoritarian leaders operate?? Control by fear......... and in this case.......fear of character assassination via Twitter. To him they are just pawns to be played with..........and disposed of as he sees fit. Their loyalty is demanded and taken for granted....but he doesn't trust any of them........so they are all disposable. He would rather hurt others than be hurt himself. Very fragile ego. He is just so very wrong for that job.......if the US is to continue as a republic. The only part of the constitution he respects is the part that gives him power.

It will be an interesting election, in viewing Twitter tonight just to get a feel of the public response many Republican senators are taking a beating from constituents, so too are some Democratic senators but I'm seeing a little more vitriol aimed at Republicans. With polls as of late stating that 75% of Americans wanted to see evidence/hear from witnesses I'm not surprised to see the push back on social media. Lindsey Graham and Mitch McConnell are really getting hammered. There is support for them as well, but going on my last look they were taking a beating.

The U.S., as a nation, have to decide whether our dominant, driving motivation will be a continued desire to make the world a better place (with plenty of errors, screw-ups, and narrow-minded mistakes, I'll be the first to grant), or whether cruelty is to be our dominant ethos.

Considering the dangerous precedent that was made in the Senate today, I'm afraid cruelty is in the lead.

Mark the date. On 31 Jan 2020, I had an epiphany.

Cruelty is the ultimate moral degeneracy, and the ultimate destructive force. I now have a perfect moral North Star.

I'm only embarrassed that it took me this long to realize the obvious.

It doesn't matter.

Pardon me for being a bit "religious" here, but as I said, I've had an epiphany. Forget the shenanigans, whatever they may be. Cruelty is what counts.

It scales. From personal cruelty all the way up to cruelty as a national policy.

Wow, a whole new world. So simple. Any folly is mere folly, worth a laugh and a comment.

Cruelty is the enemy.

good to hear. Also reassuring that the public is a lot more discerning than it appeared for a while. Graham and McConnell are both hypocrites and have behaved very irresponsibly.. Neither one is remotely likeable. Glad they are getting some blow back. As they should.

....add hatred to cruelty and you have prescription for serious trouble.

we see it daily from the center of power........and that doesn't bode well. It is also progressive..........and we have seen what extreme situations have yielded.

So for me this does bring the question of this year's election to mind.

If Trump wins the election, what are the chances he will change the law and remove the 22nd?

As far fetched as it does seem, could it also be a thing?
