Reporting spam and other forms of abuse to the moderators is everyone's responsibility. The mods can't be everywhere or see everything. Use common sense regarding reporting abuse and you'll help make the moderator's job easier.

Are you kidding me. That's what crystal balls are for.

THANKS!!!! Ron, Haz and Shadow

Why are you thanking those slaves for...

VanIsle, in your infinite wisdom you opined:

"If I was a mod, I would give you time again to refresh and reload."

Would you give a reason? Or are you just filled with unreasonable hate?
You are much too critical of all things and everyone. You have lived in this country for far longer than your country of origin yet you constantly refer to yourself as an immigrant rather than just saying that you are a Canadian. You rarely have anything nice to say to anyone or about anyone. The "report" feature is there to stop ridiculous threads like this one where we all have to look at your inane comments. You have been on at least one other thread where you have pointed out that YOU think it's a useless thread. It is not to the person who started it and wanted to know some information. It is not for you to say whether a thread is important or not. If it's a thread that doesn't interest you - have some sense and move along! The thread did not begin with "Dear YJ".
Unreasonable hate? You are suggesting that I hate you. You just are not worth that much time and energy to me. To love or hate someone Jack, you have to let them be your daily focus and neither you nor anyone else here takes that kind of drain on my energy for either emotion.

I don't understand why people read and respond to threads they are not interested in and/or think are stupid. Why don't you just ignore or by-pass them?

L Gilbert, are you purposefully difficult? With quotes like the one below, you seem to confirm my belief that some posters are simply and maliciouisly contrasry to anything said, written and/or sung by anyone disagreeing with them. I thought - obviously mistakenly, that you were above the Cliffys, the SirJosephPorters and the DurkaDurkas of this world.

"Then you don't mind spammers and trolls. Well, tough luck, Jack. Most of the rest of us don't like spammers and trolls. So don't do anything to maintain the integrity of CanCon. We'll do that for you."

He wasn't being difficult, Jack. He said if you don't want to report anyone for being an ass and disrupting the threads, then don't. Some of the rest of us will do it. You're just being snarky because you feel guilty about allowing trolls and spammers to continue.

The posts that you, I or ANYONE consider offensive should be there for everyone to see what an idiot is. Reporting only pays homage to idiots who posted them.
Is that why you've been given a holiday from here in the past?

No, I don't like spams and trolls. But it should NOT be my job to notify the moderators. They are ARE the moderators, after all. They are the ones who should find and delete any and all offending or unnecessary/redundant threads/posts.
Well then don't report anyone. Someone else will if the mods don't catch them first.

"Oh, there's someone stealing something from a car over there. It's got nothing to do with me. There should be a cop here to catch him".

Seems no matter what forum you visit, or what crop of mods and admins are providing and tending the free sandbox, there's always someone who has a much better idea how things should be done without ever actually proving it by doing it themselves. I say, if you can do it better, then get on with it.

... one other observation in response to any suggestion from anyone on any forum that they'd make a better mod than those currently holding the position: If I was choosing mods (oh wait, I was lolll) ... I'd never ever in a million years choose somebody who actually asked for the job. It's a thankless, time consuming and difficult task which demands an ability to remain objective in the face of endless ludicrous petty complaints and criticism of one's efforts. I won't even get into what goes into trying to keep the peace on public forum when grown adults take their whining behind the scenes demanding punitive actions from the mods against their forum foes... you would be shocked at the level of childishness some people stoop to - which the mods not only put up with, but actually attempt to provide an effective peacekeeping intervention rather than just smiting willy nilly all those involved in whatever the fiasco of the day is..... and the length of time some folks will hold a grudge for and sometimes actually harass the mods trying to get them to take sides - sometimes for friggin' weeks! Jeeze I'm glad to be done with that cr*p.

Yep, I'm convinced that anyone who actually wants the job must be either delusional as to what the role actually entails, or dizzy with excitement at the prospect of having a little (perceived) power over other members of their forum community - and would only end up getting turfed out of the job by the admin after the first abuse of the whizzie stick.

I remain grateful to Ron, Haz and Shadow for accepting the challenge and I think they're doing a fantastic job of it. Thanks guys, I'm so glad you're here doing what you do!
Bump.
And some of us don't mind trying to make their jobs a little easier. It balances out the idiots who keep adding threads on the same topics, spout the same gibberish over and over, etc. :)

A thankless job, and there's always an armchair critic who has a better way.
Always

The report function is there to avoid wasting peoples precious time. How about an experiment. Those interested, try for one day to monitor all the new posts, and write all of them down that you think should be removed. Hand in your homework at the end of the day to the mods. See how many of the posts you picked get axed, how many of the ones you picked were reported by others, how many you missed, etc.
It's easier just to report the stupid, redundant, trolling, etc. threads and posts.

Of course I may be putting more work on the mods by even suggesting this educational experience. It's a tough job, but someone has to do it! :D
Someone give Ton a big cookie. ;)

I don't understand why people read and respond to threads they are not interested in and/or think are stupid. Why don't you just ignore or by-pass them?
hehe Because they also include the "report" button. :evil2:

Even more insidious is the fact that certain dishonest crooks here, posing as posters, take words of others as "QUOTE" and then go and modify them to suit their purpose, falsifying the meaning and intent of the original they claim they are "QUOTING".

You lying, dishonest crooks, you know who you are!

If the moderators take their jobs seriously, they will introduce software that would prohibit this, and ban the perpetrators automatically.

What I'm reading in this thread is an awful lot of 'the mods should be omniscient'. If you'd care to point us towards the software that would enable that, I'm sure the forum (and humanity!) would much appreciate it. Until then, keep in mind that there IS a report button. Not using the report button, and expecting instead that the VOLUNTEER moderators will read every last post on the forum, and be around 24 hours a day to run it precisely as you see fit, will cause you nothing but aggrevation, because I can guarantee, net addicts that mods may be, they can not meet said standard.

And, keep in mind... your vitriolic meanderings about the tone with which someone has 'opined, spewed, dribbled', etc., their quote that you care to comment on, is no less childish and contemptable than those who choose to twist words within quotes for whatever effect they are after, so, dont expect a ton of sympathy to be forthcoming on the issue.

Oh dear - it appears you've been sadly misled YJ - so if you've been paying a huge monthly fee to partake in a forum where the moderators are actually PAID to do a JOB, I suggest you promptly demand a refund. Since the mods here are in fact NOT paid to do a JOB, they are therefore volunteers... and one of the very first things they're told is NOT to take the complaints of disgruntled, chronic whiners seriously.

OK Jack Time to Squeal - Now do not get excited I am not referring to THAT Movie - Where they come from behind ya.

Who are these dastardly, yes dastardly perpetrators that have broken the code, dashed the dream and left you utterly violated.
Yes I mean violated in THAT way.

L Gilbert, pressing the 'report' button is like snitching. It is low, it is a complete admission of incompetance of dealing with a bit of adversity, sign of sickeningly thin skin and the inability of coping with being offended.

I used once. I am ashamed of it now, I will never do it again.

Aw, shyte, Yukon; do it all ya want. If it gets ya off, it's all good. You won't have any RELEASE if you let it fester.

Personally, I'd rather kiss a skunks' ass, but that's just me.

Really ... it's not the same thing as peeing on an electric fence. No bolt of e-cyber energy will zap your typing finger into a bony little hook or anything. No legions of third graders will surround you taunting with wisdoms such as tattle tale tit.... If you don't feel comfortable about reporting ... just don't. Why all the attention-seeking about not feeling comfortable with attention-seeking?

Reporting an issue behind the scenes and discussing it, or starting a thread to gripe... they're the same essential thing, only one gives the mods the chance to actually see what's started the issue, and attend to it in a timely manner, and the other one gives the poster the chance to work themself into a fit and expect the mods to be mind readers. I would suggest that while one of these is an undesirable way to behave, it's not the use of the report button.

Looks like Jack got his pecker caught in a ringer with the mods this time, eh!

I'm quite certain the mods have no interest in wringing Jack's pecker. lol.

And no, to be serious, the implication that he's in any sort of 'trouble' for griping is not true... but, bring up a gripe about how others are behaving and sometimes you get gripes right back.

Is gripe water still available? I know it is for babies but it might work.

Please design and create this software immediately, if you haven't already done
so. Forward this Software to Andem for immediate implementation.

Am I understanding this correctly, in that YOU are complaining about others not
using the "quote function" correctly? I think I must be misunderstanding your
complaint....as it sounds like...well....can you reword your issue? I reads
like you're complaining about your own Non-Quoting method.

It is a case where you have to use mind over natter-

So I recommend that you not mind as he does natter.
