I fully support this system in principle. Where I believe that the wheels fall off is the prevalence of the belief (within the general population) that government must be all things to all people and depending on the philosophy of the group in power, they may (or may not) attempt to fulfill that role.
The group fuks up for eternity.
Consistanly doing the wrong thing is the greatest learning tool, if you live.
It only creates wealth for the wealthy. It also creates poverty, pollution, poisons water, soil and air. Capitalism is a cancer upon the Earth, a cancer of the soul. It is addictive as any drug. Just look at what it has done to you, Wally; it has turned you into a heartless, soulless automaton who can handle any criticism of your selfish concepts about life. I feel like the ownership part doesn't have to be essential, but I guess it goes along with the 'to each who contributes, they get something back' idea.

Well, I think it's a two edged sword (for lack of a better term). I agree that it has to be run like a business in that every dollar spent has to be accounted for and stay away from the philosophy that things can be fixed by throwing money at them. It also has to be kept in mind that with Gov't there is a lot of necessary spending that isn't going to generate money (in the short term at least)
Ok. Though I would think socialism is a more deliberate, authoritarian measure rather than the invisible hand of market forces.
That's why everyone in America is so happy they are wealthy.

No it can't. But in a democracy all governments are expected to represent all of the people; even those who did not vote for them. Punitive politics leads to an ugly mess.
