Soon no one will have an advantage and that is because the state of the world leaves
everyone dependant on everyone else. The latest problem that could bring down the
United States is completely out of its control. That being the Euro and the countries
that are fighting for economic survival. Should the Euro collapse, it will take us all down.
Ireland, Iceland, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Italy, France, and even Great Britain are all in
trouble.
The Chinese manufacturing based economy is about to grind to a halt not only that they
have totally mismanaged the money they have on hold. China has built a number of
entire cities with no one living in them and they are already starting to fall apart. Not only
that, these cities were build on prime farmland in many cases.
America and even here in Canada, we are in trouble we just don't know it yet. South
America is a continent that is almost self sufficient in energy.
Most people don't have a clue of what is to come. Just like the crash of 1929 the real
effects were not felt until 1932 and 33. This go round, is somewhat similar to that one
in that it looked like all would return to normal, and it didn't.

There is one thing most don't take into account though, America is one of those nations
that has a great ability to bounce back and change the situation in a relatively short time.
That part of the equation is rarely spoken about. I think we are in deep trouble and it will
take time to rebound, but I believe we will do just that Rebound.

The biggest problem I see today, if that most people born after about 1950 don't have the mindset or the inclination to deal with the situation of 1932-33. Little things like class sizes and not getting an annual increase have the teachers going almost ballistic.

valid points. Seems that there really is no other alternative except to rebound ......and all that remains is what will this rebound look like ??? And be like.

Of course the other question is: how can this be prevented in the future?? We hear a lot of ideas, theories, explanations of how it got this bad ....but we don't hear much with the word prevention as it relates to the future. Possibly , because it needs to be "fixed' or rebounded first.......before folks can wrap their heads around prevention.

Either way.......the reality is grim. & yes, it will take time .... a fair bit of time. Something that folks with instant results on their minds will have to adjust to. Suspect there will have to be a major shift in the singular and collective mindset . Old habits must be discarded as it seems they have contributed to the current situation. in more ways than perhaps we want to accept.

The biggest problem I see today, if that most people born after about 1950 don't have the mindset or the inclination to deal with the situation of 1932-33. Little things like class sizes and not getting an annual increase have the teachers going almost ballistic.

Not sure that it is the biggest problem.......but it is certainly a serious one . And you have narrowed in on an important cultural factor that did not exist during the crisis you mention. The generations since that time frame have a very different set of "priorities". Out of their own impoverished and crisis oriented history , parents went a tad overboard , making sure the kids had a much easier life than they did . The end result is a generation(s) lacking in some basic skills....( good sense, financial management , living within ones means , and generally being grounded in a healthy mindset.) The "ME " orientation does not do much for society in general.

The pendulum continues to swing.

Secret U.S. Memo Made Legal Case to Kill a Citizen

The Obama administration’s secret legal memorandum that opened the door to the killing of Anwar al-Awlaki, the American-born radical Muslim cleric hiding in Yemen, found that it would be lawful only if it were not feasible to take him alive, according to people who have read the document.

The memo, written last year, followed months of extensive deliberations and offers a glimpse into the legal debate that led to one of the most significant decisions made by President Obama — to move ahead with the killing of an American citizen without a trial.

The memo provided the justification for acting despite an executive order banning assassinations, a federal law against murder, protections in the Bill of Rights and various strictures of the international laws of war, according to people familiar with the analysis. The memo, however, was narrowly drawn to the specifics of Mr. Awlaki’s case and did not establish a broad new legal doctrine.

Doesn't that just make you feel warm and fuzzy all over??? What folks fail to see, is that the first few assassinations are "shocking " but as it becomes USG policy it gradually becomes the "new norm". There have been more "new norms" in the US in the past decade than one wishes to count. Not many of them have made any reasonable , legal or ethical sense.

wonder how long it will be now before they carry out an assassination of an american on US soil. (someone they target as a "terrorist" . It is very concerning to consider the kinds of "justice" that is gradually evolving and representative of "america" One can just hear the "justifications" now. IF they even bother anymore.

Obama did something right.

given this path the USG is on........what is the next step in the progression of this approach.?? It won't stop there. As has been said before......"terrorism" is a gift that just keeps giving.

bit by bit.....one cannot even recognize 'america" anymore. But if that is the path it wants to take....

We will destroy anything or person who intends to do us harm. If it is terror we use, so be it. We were taught by the best. I will admit, we are a very vengeful people, and also very kind to those who are our friends and those in need. We like puppy's and kitten's.

the part that is true , is that you are a very vengeful & vindictive nation. The problem is that you don't care about the number of innocents you slaughter in your vengeful attacks on the few that act out against the US. You have a taste for killing that has gone extreme and is now your first option. (along with targetted assassinations and torture ). That is not america as it was designed to be and evolve. Yes, you have learned from the worst ......and unfortunately sunk to their level.

Your friends are "friends " until you find an excuse to turn on them. (Think Iraq. SH was a pal until he decided to do things that the US did not like .....and see how that one ended up. Lynched . About your so called "kindness".....it does not come without a price. ..and never did. Let's not pretend otherwise.

Just like babies........puppies and kittens grow up. Then you have no use for them. Sorry to sound a tad harsh.....but there is no point in maintaining a false image or delusion any longer.

The thing is that the warts that existed for some time are now showing for all to see. That is not to say. that things cannot be changed or corrected. The potential for that is always there.

Just maybe.......the 99ers will have a bigger impact than first anticipated. There is plenty of justification for folks to be enraged. What was a fine & progressive nation has downgraded itself by virtue of human failings. Greed, revenge., envy, incompetance (in managing the budget ) etc etc......while having unrealistic hero worship of a select and shallow sub group of the society.

Sad part is that Ocean Breeze does.

why is it "sad"??? That is an irrelavent value judgement . I merely opine on here as others do about situations . If my ideas are different from yours ......so what?? You can't tell me that you want everyone here to think the same way and be brainwashed the way may in the US seem to be. operative words 'SEEM to be".

just as important: why do you find differing opinions and ideas such a threat??? Again.....is it about control ?? Do you want everyone to think like YOU do?? That is what determines the sheeple mentality ...... with everyone singing the same tune according to their doctrination.

Maybe if you stuck to the topic and presented hard evidence to oppose my comments......this would be a more stimulating (intellectually) forum...

so lets not get petty.....

thank you.

"so lets not get petty....." That was preceded by a petty post.

"Maybe if you stuck to the topic and presented hard evidence to oppose my comments..." I did just that, and was rewarded with being called a pejorative " brainwashed American patriot".

Ya OB, whatever you say...

........not much more has to be said . At least you are honest about being a terrorist too. (using terror makes you a terrorist ) That must stand for something....:-(

Oh.......and don't put the responsibility on " learned from the best" as it is YOU that decides how YOU behave.....NO one forces you to do anything. (no matter how much you like to blame others for your lethal actions)

U.S. Officials Peddle False Intel to Support Terror Plot Claims

By Gareth Porter

October 17, 2011 "Information Clearing House" -- - - Officials of the Barack Obama administration have aggressively leaked information supposedly based on classified intelligence in recent days to bolster its allegation that two higher- ranking officials from Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were involved in a plot to assassinate Saudi Ambassador Adel al-Jubeir in Washington, D.C.

The media stories generated by the leaks helped divert press attention from the fact that there is no verifiable evidence of any official Iranian involvement in the alleged assassination plan, contrary to the broad claim being made by the administration.

But the information about the two Iranian officials leaked to NBC News, the Washington Post and Reuters was unambiguously false and misleading, as confirmed by official documents in one case and a former senior intelligence and counterterrorism official in the other.

State of the nation??? Lies, deception , and more lies. that manipulate the public so effectively.

The cost of the occupations . Obscene money amounts that could have gone to improve the lives of students, (schools) and the ill (better medical plans for all ) and reconstruct areas devestated by natural disasters.

A sad set of priorities ...... particularly when spending such massive amounts.
