Trump Cabinet - Latino Free Zone

Donald Trump has left Latinos completely unrepresented in the President’s Cabinet for the first time since the Reagan Administration. Over 33 million Americans are Latino, and it is the fastest growing minority ethnicity in America. Trump’s glaring omission isn’t helped by incoming White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer, who said that “the number one thing American people should focus on, is that he is selecting the best and the brightest?” he said during a break in his Trump Hotel infomercial, clearly indicating that the President-elect doesn’t believe any Latinos are best or brightest.

This plainly shows that the President-elect doesn’t believe any Latinos are best or brightest. Instead, Spicer touted choosing Senator’s Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) wife, who is Asian-American and violated a federal law while serving in the Bush Administration, the African-American neurosurgeon who admitted he’s not qualified to serve, and by selecting South Carolina’s Indian-American Governor as a political favor to an early supporter, saying:

“I think that when you look at the totality at his administration — the people that he’s talked to, the people that he’s met with, the people that he’s appointing — you see a president who’s committed to uniting this country, who’s bringing the best and brightest together. Look at the cabinet — Elaine Chao, Dr. Ben Carson, Nikki Haley, the first Indian-American.”

Congressional Democrats didn’t wait long to blast Donald Trump for spitting in the eye of the many Latinos who swallowed their pride – or perhaps are racists themselves – and voted for the Republican candidate.

Texas Democrat Rep. Filemon Vela went on a tweetstorm after a group of constituents from his district were insulted as “beaners” on a visit to Washington, DC in a show of open racism unusual for our nation’s capital, though not unexpected with a few hundred thousand Trump supporters in town. California Democrat Rep. Tony Cárdenas said what most of his constituents, and really most political observers, really think of Donald Trump and the new Republican Party’s act of public disavowal of Hispanic-Americans:

Rep. Tony Cárdenas ✔ @RepCardenas
Trump's cabinet picks do not ensure that he's got the best and the brightest -- they do the opposite.
3:43 PM - 19 Jan 2017

The Hispanic Congressional Caucus chaired by Democratic Representative Michell Lujan Grisham (D.-N.M.) released a statement lamenting the Republican Party’s tremendous slight to Hispanic-Americans who have served both parties in such key roles as Secretary of Energy, Ambassador to the United Nations and only once as Attorney General.

“Mr. Trump’s decision to exclude Hispanics from serving in his Cabinet is inexcusable and deeply damaging to our representative democracy. The President-Elect has dangerously signaled that the people who advise the President do not need to represent all of America.

“His decision erodes the forward progress made by every U.S. President since Ronald Reagan, to seek out bright and qualified Hispanics to serve our nation as cabinet members. Over the past 29 years, Hispanics have served our nation honorably in the highest levels of government in numerous cabinet positions, including: Alberto Gonzales as Attorney General, Manuel Lujan as Secretary of the Department of Interior and Bill Richardson as Department of Energy Secretary and U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.

“We demand that Mr. Trump live up to his statement that he will be a President that unites and works on behalf of all Americans, by having an administration that represents the American people. If Mr. Trump intends to make false claims, then we will live up to our duty and hold him accountable.”

No amount of shine or spin from Sean Spicer can change the fact that Donald Trump’s Cabinet is not a very diverse group, and their primary unifying traits besides being Caucasian is that most of them are obscenely rich and frequent donors to the Republican Party.

Having been instrumental in hiring for many years I've always believed in a single criteria for candidate selection- and that is the person most qualified and capable of doing the job. Aspects like colour, creed, race, politics and handicaps have no business being considered. There is a duty to the person(s) paying the wages to get the best value for the dollar.

Re: Meryl Streep Criticizes Trump At Golden Globe Awards

Meryl Streeps opinion is no more important than any of the other 300 million Americans. The voters have made their choice. Case closed.

Probably even less as her plate is probably so "full" that she doesn't have the time to fully evaluate other opinions, except possibly in a theatrical field.

I wonder why the Dumpster is not paying any attention to your criteria.

The U.S. descends into brutality as the real-life Archie Bunker is sworn as prez

EXCELLENT piece from the KING of news in Canada: The CBC.

They're almost as good as CNN.

The U.S. descends into brutality as the real-life Archie Bunker is sworn in as president

Taken as a photo, a moment in time, what's about to happen on the steps of the U.S. Capitol is concussive; a palimpsest from a rougher, crueler era that was merely painted over, rather than transformed, by the progressive advances that so many people assumed would continue, inevitably, with every passing year.

But it's not a moment. The investiture of President Donald Trump is a natural development the nation has been building toward for half a century.

A friend assigns its origin to the '70s sitcom All in the Family, which, she says, made it all right — even funny — to say out loud the things that people had been shamed into murmuring quietly, in private. You know, shamed by political correctness.

Actually, Archie Bunker's open bigotry was as a liberal fantasy, orchestrated by producer Norman Lear, the ideological ancestor of Aaron Sorkin.

Yes, there were laughs every time Archie unleashed another opinion about "your fags," or "your Jews," or "your spades," but his role was that of the racist dunce, always schooled in the end by the innocent decency of his wife Edith, or an actual encounter with one of the minorities he casually belittled.

But All in the Family did, for the first time, shine a light on the deaf slanging between conservatives – Archie – and liberals, represented by Archie's educated, progressive son-in-law Michael Stivic.

The show petered out after eight years, its novelty gone. It was surpassed by reality – a polity that just kept getting more vicious, eventually leaving its banks and flooding the U.S. with the hatred-soaked, nearly murderous discourse that buoyed Trump and floated him into the White House.

Real-life Archie

As of today, the real-life Archie is president, the most powerful man in the world, immune to shaming or schooling. He actually feeds on it.

In retrospect, it's easy to pick out events that deepened the national odium: the emergence of Fox News, the 9/11 attacks, the 2008 economic catastrophe.

"Nearly murderous," incidentally, is not meant as hyperbole. Violent conflict becomes possible when two sides begin to dehumanize each other, and it's not even controversial to suggest that has happened in the U.S.

Fake news on the internet, which used to be called conspiracy theories, is most often framed to accomplish exactly that. Falsely suggesting Barack Obama was born elsewhere (Africa) and is likely the enemy (a Muslim) was the theory pushed by so long by Trump, a clear effort to dehumanize.

The only people who are salty are the ones that think CBC and CNN are fake news.
