Re: Harper's former chief of staff wants proportional representation

I just wish the Conservative s would just disappear, they are delusional to think anyone cares about their opinions.

73% of Canadians want national referendum on electoral reform, poll suggests

As Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government took its first step in overhauling the country’s electoral system, a new poll suggests nearly three-quarters of Canadians say any changes should be put to a national referendum.

The poll, conducted exclusively for Global News by Ipsos Public Affairs, found 73 per cent of respondents “agree” (37 per cent strongly/36 per cent somewhat) that the Liberals shouldn’t make any changes to the country’s voting system without a national referendum first.

Referendum wouldn't work.

Electoral reform is a difficult discussion that you can't encapsulate in a simple question.

It's not like the question of sovereignty where there is a simple yes or no answer.

This shows that even though the majority of us aren't familiar with politics we want to keep it as democratic as possible. The majority of us don't like any ONE group making big decisions changing big processes. We want EVERYONE to vote... That's the way it should be

Actually you may see a lot of issues being dealt with via referendums. We certainly should have them when constitutional issues are the topic and that would include domestic and foreign issues. Every voter has a SIN and with that you have an account at Revenue Canada and that is secure enough that voting can be done and it is as honest as it gets. Make your pension higher the more involved you are in the voting process. Take any transfers away and pork barrel politics would have no real meaning. The Companies would have to use the bribe money on the voters.

Well it bloody well better come to a referendum because the 'committee' is stacked with libs. This will not go away mentalfloss.

Sure, maybe they'll make the committee look more proportional.

That would be the right thing to do.
