I don't see the Christian end of the IRA, not really, it was more about hatred of the Brits. I know Catholic, Protestant, but still it was more about hate.
As I have said before, it is not about degrees. Nutbars are nutbars and it is only a matter of time before the media hysteria about Islam escalates to putting grenades in the hands of Christian kids. Just look what the hysteria has done for your view of Islam.
I am not arguing or apologizing for Islam. Far from it. All I'm saying is the thing about pointing fingers - three pointing back at the pointer.
Punch in abo into Google and it gives you nothing, It prompts for abortion. Evidence Google does not like the word. Google is American though and Americans are thoroughly clueless about Indians and aboriginals. Google treats abo like porn, no prompts. Check it out.
So I hit return into google. Found a usage of abo by Canadian aboriginals. Perhaps this Congress can be excused because they want a short URL. People are lazy, and shorter URLs get more hits. Why can't others be lazy too and write abo for aboriginal?
In this case, by the Congress, it is okay to use the word abo because it increases their overall exposure to the world. They have a high page rank, first page, tops. Perhaps they can be excused because they all agree it's okay to use abo when they need it, but not when non-Metis, non-treaty, or off-reserve Indians want to use it. But a complete stranger, is not permitted to use it. But it's okay to use within the in-group, but not outside, it appears.
If an aboriginal Congress uses the term abo, then the issue may be that whites are more offended by the term than aboriginals are. In some cases that is true. Calling aboriginals anything is complicated as they seem to have so many terms and names. Why add another one that may make people think? Abo will never fly in the USA, but it can in Australia because their English and outlook on the world is very different from ours.

Two Black guys, who know each other, may address each other as,
"My Nigger!" in greeting for whatever reason. It makes me squirm but
whatever. I know I'm not going to address either guy in the same
manner, & I doubt you would either dumpthemonarchy.
The term "Abo" may just fall into the same camp in its usage.

Well, if you bomb the crap out of countries, killing their children, parents, wives and husbands, they tend to get really pissed off and want to kill you. If another country came over here and did what we have done over there, don't you think that many of us would be doing the same thing to them? Do you not think Christians would be teaching their children to avenge the death of their parents? Jeezuz, why are we more self righteous than they are?
Interestingly, the hate law says private conversations are not included. Sure, between two black guys they are having fun, no problem. I saw in a movie a basketball coach criticizing black players for using the term because in the wider world it is not acceptable.
I wouldn't call anyone nigger nor would anyone ever call me one without a long and perhaps intense conversation. Last time I heard it commonly used was years ago and the guy was talking about his girlfriend and he seemed to call himself nigger, the other two guys there recoiled too. He never used it again.
That's a word, even though we never had any significant number of blacks in BC, we all know that term very well and it stings. It has much more to it than abo does.
Abo falls into another camp because the longer form of word, aboriginal, is not offensive. Aboriginal has Latin origins, abo meaning from;original means from the area. Abo is used in Australia, often. Nigger is never used anywhere, aside from two people joking.
Islam is anti-modern, like all religions. The Islamists want to take their beliefs far and wide, they clash with the modern world.
Invading Afghanistan was UN approved and thus okay. The invasion of Afghanistan should have only lasted 5 months because the Taliban were defeated.
Iraq was unnecessary. We get enough oil from Saudi Arabia and Iraq was willing to sell oil to anyone. Plus, Saddam was against al-quaeda. The USA response to 9/11 was excessive and a march of folly.
