Happened to see this headline on MacLean's website today. As I look out my window while writing this, I have to wonder just how fitting it might be. The temp here today is +8 C, the snow is gone, the lake is almost ice free again and I was outside with the dogs in a light jacket. And yes, brown is the color that best describes what it looks like today......at least here in the Heartland of BC.

Thought this was going to be about immigration. Fortunately it's a benign topic, climate change.

I run diesel trucks and every day that is above -10 at night is a gift to me. Makes mornings less stressful because even with block heaters, big trucks have other things that can act all goofy when they get cold like air brakes and fuel systems which are each subject to condensation and freezing lines.
Here in Southern Ontario, brown will do fine thanks.

Here's another article on the North that you may find interesting Mowich, discussing the balmy conditions in Barrow Alaska:
As Sea Ice Declines, Winter Shifts in Northern Alaska | Climate Central
The consequences of the record loss of Arctic sea ice this past summer are becoming clear to the 4,000 or so residents of Barrow, Alaska, who have seen a much milder and snowier-than-average start to their typically long and bitterly cold winter season.

According to the National Weather Service, Barrow has seen “almost continuous above-normal temperatures” since September “due to a lack of sea ice” formation until last week. Along with the above-average temperatures has come above-average snowfall. Snowfall since July 1 has been more than a foot above average, the Weather Service said, with 31.4 inches of snow having fallen through Nov. 17.
It's been quite warm in the Arctic compared to what they would normally experience. Take this island in the Kara Sea, above Russia:
- (recommend translation from Russian to English) :

November has averaged 11.7°C warmer than the long-term average, with some days reaching 17.1°C above average...that is a huge deviation from the norm.

The grass is nice and green here and our lawn really could use mowing. Couple of sunny days wouldn't hurt though. As long as it is like this it cuts down on the amount of horse feed we have to buy. Also the amount of fire wood to cut for next year.

I last saw my lawn sometime around Holloween, but I know it's down there
somewhere...

...under at least a foot of snow with several layers of frozen rain. I look
forward to mowing it again next sometime in perhaps early May.

Countryside around here is a mix of colors. green, grey, brown, some red and yellow. Snow died except at the higher elevations. Raining right now down here and snowing up top. Weird weather.

Temperature was about 14C today, and it's supposed to be the same tomorrow. I read somewhere that parts of Eastern Canada and areas near the lakes will have a fairly mild Winter due to the water having above-average temperatures (from the hot Summer we had, I assume). If so, I'll be happy. Looking for beach glass in January/February is lots of fun!

We are well into the evening here and its still plus one. Today we had a mixed bag even some afternoon
sun. It was ten here on the farm and I got some pruning in on hill side that is good for when the snow does
come it makes it more difficult with the elevated platform. I am hoping we get another ten days of this as it
would ensure I get a lot of winter pruning done. The lawn is still green it will be great for putting up my
Christmas lights tomorrow night. Anyone putting up outside lights should have a hydralada. They are a
smaller light weight elevated platform that makes so much easier and they handle well in snow and on bare
ground they are even better
