That is exactly my point, JLM. The ancient Greeks never had Winter Olympics. There were never any Winter Olympics until some people/nations who could not win/produce anything in the Summer Olympic Games came up with the idea of Winter Olympics.
I am sure that if it had been the ancient Lapps or Vikings to create the first Olympic Games, it would have included sports persued in the Northern climate.
Also sure that the people/nations who could not have won anything there, would have invented the Summer Olympics.
the only dangerous sport I can think of in summer games
is equestrian, everything else is pretty woosie.
