Firstly, Target obtained the leases from Hudson’s Bay. Hudson’s Bay made more money off this selloff then the owner’s initially paid for the entire company a few years back and have not made any effort in protecting Zellers employees. These two corporate players have ‘negotiated’ that all Zellers personal be muzzled from talking to any media. Zellers employees will have to forego the several years service, some of which have been with the company for 25+ years, and now reapply to Target to take on lower paying wages, less benefits (if any) and low seniority jobs. While I do agree, it is time to see Zellers go, there seems to lack any corporate responsibility to all the Zellers employees who put their years, their trust and loyalty to a company who hangs them out to dry. I think it’s a sad day for all Canadians as this is the world we live in today. Big corporate rules, and the little guy continues to suffer. Both Target and HBC are guilty in this scenario. Happy shopping because I know nothing of what I posted above will detour the majority of shoppers from going there. Who cares, right?
