I think it depends upon the wine. Same with beer. Guinness I prefer chilled. Our local stout I prefer room temp. Wife likes her Shiraz slightly chilled and her Riesling room temp.
Some expensive grog (love that term) is very nice, but at times there are cheaper ones that are just as good or good enough to pass without spending the extra $50 for the expensive stuff. Appleton Estate rum I drink isn't the most expensive rum, for instance, but it's close enough and quite a bit cheaper than Pusser's.
