Stompin' Tom Conners dead at age 77

First heard about him from my Dad who saw him in a bar in Timmins and was quite impressed.

Stompin' Tom made music his way and that counted for a lot with his fans-reading his autobiography is a must if you're at all interested in Canadian history.

Well that really sucks. I was hoping to see him one more time. He put on a great show. My grandparents played his stuff constantly when I was a kid. His music introduced me to Canadian history and identity. He seemed to have a song for nearly every small town in the country, including my own.

His stomping used to damage stage floors. The way he stomped, would not surprise me if section had to be replaced after each show.

Did you know that at one time a person was not allowed to bring potatoes Into P.E.I.? Ex. If you were camping and had potatoes with you, you couldn’t bring them into P.E.I.? I can’t imagine it being different now. As proud and protective of their product. I wouldn’t want to take the chance of any of the fungi or diseases being brought into the province either.

The guy certainly had something. There were times when I couldn't stand another minute of "The Good Old Hockey Game"
but mostly I enjoyed it. Stompin Tom entertained people right accross this country and people would flock to see his performances.

Next Wednesday, the Bear clan will be in Peterborough to pay our respects to a truly great Canadian, and celebrate his life.

My grandfather, who adored Stompin' Tom, introduced me to his iconic Canadian tunes years ago, and I haven't been able to think of one, without the other coming to mind since.

Canada lost a little piece of her heart with his passing.

Yesterday I posted the best song (in my opinion) that Tom ever wrote, Today, with apologies to his fans, I will post the worst song he ever wrote, right here in Kapuskasing, at the Radio Hotel.
I don't think he ever dared sing it here or he would have been run out....
I never heard of him singing it Live after he released it in an album in '69 and can't find a video of him singing it....

News Update on the celebration of his life...

The gates will open at 5pm, at the Peterborough Memorial Centre, the show begins at 7pm.

There's only seating for 4000 people, so we'll be leaving here real early to make sure we can get in, let alone get good seats, lol.

Admission is free, as Tom requested, although donations to the Peterborough Food Share are being accepted.

Brian Edwards, Tom's long time friend and manager said in an interview...

"Everybody's going to be there — including Tom (in spirit)."

And...

"The biggest sendoff the Canadian music scene might ever see..."

I believe Tom deserves that.
