Re: Harper, honoured in N.Y. as statesman of the year, aims to snub UN

That figure has to be taken with a grain of salt too. What were the payroll costs for soldiers, who would have been deployed somewhere regardless? Most of the "collateral" damage was done by insurgents.

One man's insurgent is another man's freedom fighter.

What are those wars all about any way?

I have to steal this comment from someone at the NP because it say's exactly what I was thinking;

Rewarded by a jewish run foundation days after cutting off diplomatic ties with Iran?

What's the chances?

OTTAWA — Prime Minister Stephen Harper is being hailed as “World Statesman of the Year” by an American organization that previously feted Jean Chretie, British prime minister Gordon Brown and and Korean president Lee Myung-bak.

The award, for his work as “a champion of democracy, freedom and human rights”, comes from an organization called the Appeal of Conscience Foundation.

Re: Harper, honoured in N.Y. as statesman of the year, aims to snub UN

Why don't you compare the two and get back to us...do you even know if the payroll costs for example are that different between the two? The Reuters report doesn't mention that as an additional cost that the government estimate failed to include.

- Tonington ... Nice work as usual. You have managed to a/ divert discussion of another achievement by our prime minister whom you do not like with an irrelevant report and b/ erroneously credit the report to Reuters when all Reuters did was to release the report done by some anti-war college professors with a left wing agenda on the Reuters news service without endorsing it in the least.

- In actual fact, and your political and the porfessors' politcal agendas aside, the amounts of money requested by the Bush and the Obama administrations to fight the Iraq and the Afghanistan wars was $1.3 trillion EXACTLY AS I SAID IT WAS now increased in 2012 to $1.4 trillion. This, EXACTLY AS I SAID IT WAS, is less than one quarter of the size of the debt that has been accumulated under your hero Obama. The additional expenditures to wage these two wars were expenditures that would have been required regardless of the two wars, spending required to maintain a large and modern and costly military establishment that must be paid, equipped, housed, trained, fed, etc. regardless of whether or not they are in Kabul or Kansas and whether they are at war or at peace.

- Perhaps you should play with someone your own size rather than with former armed forces officers like myself, if you can find anyone that small. LOL

It certainly should. No person worthy of note would believe a cruel and stupid joke like this. That's what makes it werry werry funny. I understand the same group of recovering super heavy drinkers will declare Benny the Knife Nuttingyahoo Humanitarian of the Twenty First Century.

Bloody hell!

Another ****ing Nazi. How could I have guessed???

It was the JOOS!!!!

It was not a "Jewish foundation", although it was founded by a Rabbi, it is an interfaith foundation promoting religious tolerance.

Now, I don't really think it means much..........it is not a very prominent or widely supported organization.

But you can put away the Easy Bake oven, get out of the black uniform, and put the lightning bolt insignia back in the jewelry box..

It wasn't the Joos.

OTTAWA —

The organization paying tribute to Harper was founded in 1965 by Rabbi Arthur Schneier. Its website says the Foundation has worked on behalf of religious freedom and human rights throughout the world.

Its board includes former U.S. president Bill Clinton and former U.S. secretaries of state Madeleine Albright, James Baker, retired general Colin Powell and George Schultz.

Has there been a more vastly overrated person in the past 50 years than Colin Powell? He helped cover up My Lai. He did his part to make sure that the Iran-Contra mess never came fully to light. He buckled under to chickenhawk bullies in the Bush White House and did his part to lie us into a destructive war with a speech to the U.N. that he knew was based on stovepiped bull**** from people he already didn't trust. And still, people trust him and revere him and, I have no doubt, if he came to them shilling another war, they'd salute and agree with him as devoutly as they did back in 2003, when he was before the UN talking about those lagoons of anthrax consomme that didn't really exist.
