good question. Why does he bring up such an inflamtory topic in such an inflamatory /divisive way??

what points does he aim to achieve??

:? It worked in Bush's campaign didn't it? I know when it comes to Bush we've heard enough chimp jokes...But in Harpers case, it's Monkey see Monkey do.

RE: Harper vows free vote

It did work with "W's" campaign but us up here in Canada don't really fall for that type of politicking not to mention for the most part we are pretty well more open minded as well. We also understand their are more pressing issues to be dealt with.

SSM is legal, it should be left at that and it is time to move on. 5 countries (Canada, South Africa, Holland,Spain, Belgium)have it legal now and I am sure more are to follow.

Re: Harper vows free vote on gay marriage

This is an argument about homosexuality. When I am successful, it will lead to a conclusion condemning same-sex marriage.

The argument continues.

Human reproduction requires the combination of genetic material from two different sexes.

Homosexuals can't reproduce. Homosexual hypocrites can.

Homosexuals are genetic dead-enders.

Agree to this basic point and the argument can move forward. Alternatively, provide a counter-argument or accept total defeat.

Sanity only requires that you acknowledge the facts, not like them.

Answer - so are you suggesting that any marriage should be a trial marriage and that if they don't reproduce after, say 5 years, they should be forcibly separated. According to your arguement, any childless couple shouldn't have a marriage.

"Homosexuals can't reproduce. Homosexual hypocrites can."

Answer - what the hell are you talking about??? Homosexuals are genetically able to reproduce, just not with each other (YET). What is a "homosexual hypocrite" ???

Homosexuals are genetic dead-enders.

Answer - are you suggesting euthanizing them? Maybe make soyant green out of them.

"Agree to this basic point and the argument can move forward. Alternatively, provide a counter-argument or accept total defeat."

Answer - you have made no point. Try to be clear.

Sanity only requires that you acknowledge the facts, not like them.

Answer - so what are your facts???

I'm not following him on any of it. He's trying to use science to justify his hateful stance, but he doesn't understand the science he's trying use. If he did, he would understand that homosexuality has a genetic component and that recurs throughout the generations. It is part of the human genome.

Yeah, I know. I thought I'd start with an easy one though, not so sciency.

Re: Harper vows free vote on gay marriage

He still needs to address the issue of allele frequencies in social species being dependent on selection pressures that favour the overall reproductive success of the group, rather than of the particular individuals that the group comprises.

It was Hoggy who brought up the whole "scientific" justification for his homophobia so if he wants to play in the scientific kitchen, let's see if he can stand the heat, or if it's only from the hot air he's blowing.

Also, he's got it wrong: the onus is not on homosexuals to justify their existence, since it is a trait, like left-handedness, that is present in primate populations to a minority, but significant and proportionally stable degree.

The onus is on bigots to justify their pathology and to show that it is not an evolutionary "dead end".

Otherwise, he should just admit that he finds homsexuality "icky"-- perhaps because he harbours an attraction to it and is ashamed-- and that he has no legitimate basis on whch to advocate depriving them of full social acceptance.

...not unless you have a tail. I reckon you're an ape like the rest of us...

BTW my youngest is a lefty.

I've heard you sinister types are supposed to be good at math. My little guy loves math and is working through his brother's Grade 1 workbooks on his own, at age 5.

I didn't know that. Funny, but my father and one brother, both lefties, are both good at math while the rest of the family sucks at it.

Yeah, it has to do with the relationship between handedness and lateralization of brain function. It's not simple, and I don't know a whole lot about it, but there is a fair bit of research being done on it.

does this make ANY rational sense to anyone here?? ( um.....except maybe the author? )

seems someone is throwing down a gauntlet. Sorry, will not work....... The prejudice is appalling...... and serves only to intice, antagonize and enrage. Wanna pick a bigoted fight.?......please go somewhere else. thanks

Archie Bunker had more sense than this and we all know what a prejudiced bigot he was.

Re: Harper vows free vote on gay marriage

OB, Hoggy's posts don't make any sense in terms of the science he invokes, but doesn't understand.

I hear tell 'round these parts, that you're a psychological-type expert.

If'n that's the case, then I reckon you should explain Hoggy to us.

would take HOURS :)

Would be safe to go with "Archie Bunker " syndrome....as that personifies /explains it best.

(for those unfamiliar with Archie......just look it up... hint: TV series )

(not an "expert". Not sure there is such a thing.
