I've heard you sinister types are supposed to be good at math.

I didn't know that. Funny, but my father and one brother, both lefties, are both good at math while the rest of the family sucks at it.

I'm a leftie too. I hear that left-handers are not only better at math, but are better looking too!

I have only one little thing to say about Harper and his free vote: it'll be his way or the highway :)

Re: Harper vows free vote on gay marriage

Personally, I am neither for nor against gay marriage; however, the thought has crossed my mind that perhaps Harper was trying to slay 2 birds with one stone.. The very recent newly elected leader of the Parti Quebecois is gay and possibly Harper was trying to bring that out in a subterfuged manner in order to gain a few votes in Quebec away from the Bloc.... besides re-airing his own personal opinions.
...just a thought......

Yeah well...I suck at math, but under certain conditions, I could gaze at Julias and Mandelbrots for days on end...

This is an argument about homosexuality. When I am successful, it will lead to a conclusion condemning same-sex marriage.

The argument continues.

Human reproduction requires the combination of genetic material from two different sexes.

Homosexuals can't reproduce. Homosexual hypocrites can.

Homosexuals are genetic dead-enders.

Agree to this basic point and the argument can move forward. Alternatively, provide a counter-argument or accept total defeat.

Sanity only requires that you acknowledge the facts, not like them.

Okay Hoggie, for the sake of argument let's agree to those propositions as a starting point, even though I think they're seriously flawed. If you can make a rational and consistent argument starting from there that results in a condemnation of same sex marriage, that at no point invokes an argument from authority which would immediately invalidate it, or makes a logical error, I'd like to see it.

Make your case.

Re: Harper vows free vote on gay marriage

An argument is not a trial. There is no final judgement that will overrule any of the preliminary steps. Instead, as each point is agreed to it becomes the truth for both sides. The conclusion is merely the final point in the argument.

The argument continues.

Homosexuals are genetic dead-enders.

Pig boy ... if that is true, then please explain to me how you can sanction infertile couples getting married? If it's all about procreation, then the whole premise of marriage changes.

I'm not interested in marrying my partner because I want the patter of little feet! If I want that, I'll put booties on my Jack Russell. The reason I want to marry her is to celebrate the fact that I've found the one human being on this planet with whom I want to wake up next to every day. The one person I trust beyond all others, the one that has inspired me to be a better version of myself. That she has no penis should not be the deciding factor.

If having kids is the only argument you got, you might as well throw that white towel in the ring right now.

RE: Harper vows free vote on gay marriage

To put it a little bluntly: We need genetic Dead enders....Overpopulation anyone? At least those that do not, or will not Breed can still contribute to our society in a positive and constructive manner. Different? Yes. But consider the larger spectrum of how we relate with one another and the toll it takes on the environment to sustain us.

Really? You have yet to make an argument, you just keep repeating that claim.

Let's see what you've got. Put up or shut up.

Fine. Here you go: Let us say that Homosexuals, by definition, are people who have sex only with members of the same sex. Let us agree that "human reproduction requires genetic material from two different sexes".

Next, here's the newsflash for you: Human reproduction DOES NOT REQUIRE AN ACT OF SEX.

End of argument, you are wrong. Have a nice day.

Re: Harper vows free vote on gay marriage

If you are capable of mustering a pro-homosexuality argument (like you said you could), you aren't showing it.

Any argument needs to follow a structure of point and counterpoint. Typically we can't move forward from a point without agreement. That would serve no purpose at all.

If you refuse to follow this structure, you were never sincerely willing to argue and I will claim victory by default.

I made the first point. Homosexuals are genetic dead-enders. This point is critical to my argument. It is clear and simple. If you were ever willing to argue, then either agree with it (so we can move on) or disagree and provide an argument that counters it.

I am willing to remain on this first basic point for as long as it takes to reach agreement.

When you agree, it becomes our shared truth and there is no turning back.

Going once.....twice....

Sperm banks and other fertilaty clinics have put a stop to this.

How is a homosexual couple that produced a child with either their sperm or egg a hypocrite. You didn't address that question earlier.
