No, they are not. Communism (there has never been a true communist state) is more like fascism/totalitarianism. Socialism is more about equality, justice and shared economy. Capitalism is about exploitation of workers, resources and the accumulation of wealth by the ruling elite. But I know that right wingnuts don't understand much cuz of they're willful ignorance. They prefer to be told what to think and believe. Have a nice day.
Read Animal Farm while having a nice day . Which animal are you ?

The communists believed they were socialists. They became a dictatorship because a true socialist state leaves a power vacuum which IMHO will always be filled by a dictator of some sort. What is referred to as "Socialism" by modern politicians I doubt is any way really connected with classic socialism.

According to The Oxford Handbook of Karl Marx, "Marx used many terms to refer to a post-capitalist society—positive humanism, socialism, Communism, realm of free individuality, free association of producers, etc. He used these terms completely interchangeably. The notion that "socialism" and "Communism" are distinct historical stages is alien to his work and only entered the lexicon of Marxism after his death"

Is Norway being taken over by right wing fanatics? Is Sweden or Denmark? South American socialist states were destroyed by US economic sanctions. But I don't see the US putting sanctions on them because they don't have resources that the US covets.

Norway has a huge oil reserve. It's one of the reasons they have been able to do so well. Lots of revenue for the state. So that argument isn't the reason for the sanctions or lack of them.

Communism was built on these core values Cliffy, Just read up on Lenin and the people's revolution the first successful Socialist revolution known to human kind.

The bourgeoisie put forward the demand for equal rights for all citizens in the struggle against medieval, feudal, serf-owner and caste privileges. In Russia, for example, unlike America, Switzerland and other countries, the privileges of the nobility are preserved to this day in all spheres of political life, in elections to the Council of State, in elections to the Duma, in municipal administration, in taxation, and …

Therefore any state with huge oil reserves could also set up a successful socialist government that results in zero public debt?

Sounds good to me.

My pension and anyone else with CPP or TFS or RRSP is invested in Corporations. If Corporate taxes go up in order to feed able bodied 20 year olds, I lose my pension. Are the deadbeats going to feed me?

Well, I'd like to think I improved my quality of life through hard work due to the investment in Capitalist small businesses & various companies who started with the idea to create the business that benefitted me and my family. I dd not come from a "rich" or even "middle class" background. I worked for everything I got thanks to Capitalism. While capitalism isn't perfect, its the best system we currently have and we need to cherish it or lose our freedom in order to grow & improve. Individual thought & action is not permitted under socialism so innovation goes "out the window." Socialism = group think which is not a good thing at all resulting in a boring, backward society with nothing to look forward to for the future. UGH!! Oh, and of course, the "elite" will not have had to make any changes to their lifestyles because, after all, they know what's best for everyone else. Check out Venezuela where you can see the "masters" eating food that only their constituents (aka regular people) can only dream about because the shelves in their stores are empty!!

Under a socialist government, I would have had to give up pretty much everything I earned and have absolutely nothing to show for my labour because it's all about "sharing". Own a house? Not allowed - it must be a "government house"so they control who lives where and you may well end up with a roommate that is totally unsuitable. Stores will only be able to stock certain items thus creating shortages. Ya, socialism is definitely the way to go - NOT!!

Own a car? No b'cuz you can't buy gas - it's a no no - can't drive a car using wind mills or solar panels; work where you're told to and not where you want to even if you could get a job which is highly unlikely because all the companies have either left or the government has taken them over and hired their families (aka Biden's cash for access) to run them (to the ground because they don't know WTF they're doing); can't express any idea that goes against government otherwise internment is in the cards.

SO

The many "capitalists" I worked for hired me and I got paid for my work because I had the skills that they needed to succeed. So how was I "exploited?" Maybe I "exploited" them to earn my salary?

Considering hubby was in the military and we moved a lot, the jobs I did get were, for the most part, rewarding and I was compensated accordingly. Maybe I could have earned more but the work was worth more to me than the salary I was getting. As long as I felt the salary I got was "fair", I was happy. I am not a greedy person so as long as my needs were being met, why would I complain? I was never fired; I was promoted more often than not; sometimes it took awhile to get work because of the locations we were sent to, but over all my working experience has been positive.

I remember at one position I had, a co-worker called me to tell me that a "new hire" was receiving the same salary as I and I had been there for (i dunno, 5 years??) or so. She didn't think that was fair. I told her that perhaps that person had skills that I didn't have and was worth that amount. I wasn't offended because I was happy with what I was making and I earned substantial raises every year. I don't know how she knew what the new person was getting vs. what I was getting, but I didn't care - not my business. If I wasn't happy with my salary I could either go to my boss and ask for more OR I could find a new position that offered what I wanted. I did neither because I was happy doing the work I was doing, loved the people I worked with and happy with my compensation. What more could I have asked for?

So if Capitalism is so bad, why is it that both Canada & the U.S. have a high standard of living? Why, if Capitalism is so bad, do we have power, clean water, heat in the winter, a/c in the summer, cars to drive, grocery stores with full shelves of food, so many restaurants & entertainment venues (disposable income). We've got it pretty damn good; better than those in Cuba, Venezuela, Iran, N. Korea etc., Who here would change places with anyone in those countries?

While maybe simplistic, if you don't like capitalism, then perhaps you need to go to the "socialist" country of your choice and live there. See how long you last.

In my opinion, even the idea of socialism is totally ridiculous and as one commentator said... "you only get to vote socialism once."
