You could add Canada to that list. A recent study showed that the cost of medications is the major factor forcing many seniors into poverty.

Yep, most definitely. I know a woman who had bladder cancer, her medication was $4,000/month, and the province didn't cover it, and she had no insurance. Her doctor was able to lobby the manufacturer to give her 2 months free, her church raised money for another two months, her father paid for one, then she died, leaving her 5 year old son.

The NHS in Britain covers most meds and for whatever reason, we didn't follow that part of the model. Lobbying by Pharma, probably.

I read the wait can be four plus years sometimes, but hey, they all lost their coal jobs under Obamba, so they have the time I guess.

The American health system is set up to kill off that surplus population.

They held the Medical Clinic at the local Fairgrounds.......

“Mr. Trump really needed to be here,” Brock said. “There’s been absolutely no change in the number of people that come to these events since the day I started it in the United States.”

Brock founded RAM in 1985, and this weekend’s clinic marked the 869th such event. Although the majority of the free clinics are conducted in the U.S., Brock originally formulated the idea as a way to serve people in developing nations.

“Ninety-odd percent of what we do is here in the U.S. — because of this,” Brock said, gesturing to the clinic behind him. “Let’s fix it, and then we can start concentrating on these other places that we were formed to help.”

Tonia Large, 61, and her granddaughter Isabella Mullins, 12, held coveted tickets Nos. 1 and 2 for Friday morning .

Like 60 percent of the patients at the RAM clinic, Large and Mullins sought dental care. People in Southwest Virginia depend on RAM, Large said.

Large, who doesn’t have health insurance, criticized the Affordable Care Act as unaffordable.

“I do know that with health care, unless people come up with something with premiums that people can afford, people are still going to be doing without,” she said. “It’s bad everywhere, but here with coal gone, very few jobs in this area, there’s nothing really here. You don’t have many opportunities to get a good job so you can afford to pay high premiums.”

An annual free clinic at the Wise County Fairgrounds is the place of last resort for people who can’t afford insurance even under Obamacare, or who don’t qualify for Medicaid in a state where the legislature has resisted expansion.

Not for Cliffy. He bitched and moaned that he would have to pay for his medication when forced off welfare onto OAS. So he is still on welfare and proud of it.

I have never seen so many greedy thoughtlessness individuals in my life..

Canada's healthcare may not be perfect, but as Canadians we can be proud that all Canadians are afforded Healthcare when needed without putting them into the poor house, and not placing others in front of the line based on economic status...

The USA should be so lucky to have what Canada enjoys..

Why is it Canada, the U.K., Germany most developed nations have some sort of Socialized Healthcare and the USA doesn't? Greed, from private hospitals, big pharmaceutical companies, greed from insurance companies...

In Ontario we will have dueling Pharmacy Plans for 2018. Nothing from the Brown Cons on a plan, if any is to come but, it should be National.

I don't want to make these stories about me from here on but, I'm having first hand experience.

One of the IV Drips I got 4 times a day for 7 days was to relive pressure on the brain to skull. I asked a nurse if it was expensive and she said a $1000.00 a bag, but no cost of course when you are hospitalized.

When I got out I have 5 prescriptions but I have 80% insurance coverage. It still cost me $102.00 I didn't get a receipt for the total cost, just a breakdown of my 20%. But if I was someone who didn't have coverage that cost $650.00 or so could hurt, especially since I can't work and would have had to wait for EI Disability.

It will be interesting to see what happens after the operation.

Experts can argue whether the Liberal pharmacare plan is better or worse than that pitched by Andrea Horwath’s Ontario New Democrats. The NDP proposes a scheme that would cover everyone under 65 but only for 125 commonly prescribed drugs.

Dental care, huh?

Even in Canada, dental care is NOT part of the medicare system. If 60 percent of these people are there for dental care, that completely skews the numbers away from the whole health care debate.

It does, of course, raise the question about whether basic dental care should be part of health care.
