In Montreal, if I were to protect my family and fire at an armed intruder burglarizing my home, I would get arrested.

and the problem is???

CA does not put as much emphasis on 'guns" as the US does. Amazing that every toddler in the US does not own a gun now.

But living in a dangerous, paranoid society can do that to people. Seems all those guns around......little wonder many are afraid of their own shadow.

There are more constructive ways of protecting ones home /property etc.

All right then. If an armed intruder comes into my home while I am asleep, I have a descent chance of being able to protect my family. In your case, the armed intruder would realize that you are not armed and would drop his weapon and surrender. In that case, I'll stick to my method, you to yours.

Because we all know that we will be victims of an armed intruder threw the course of our life time.

America has tried before to take over this country, we have had others who wanted to head south for leadership. We as Canadians may fight with each other until hell freezes over, yet we come together to thwart any attmept by the US of A to take us over.
Our own government can send whoever it wants to make it so, but the Canadian People will never support such a measure.
The one world order concept, which was first uttered by Hitler, incidently, will not fly either, just like the concept of world free trade is starting to fade into history.
Three hundred years from now, America will be trying to take over Canada just like the old wolf, tries to capture the roadrunner.

How will you protect your family if you are asleep?

I have a big steel pipe under my bed, which, between that and my cellphone call to the police, will do just bloody fine if intuders come into my house. And with a pipe there's no chance that I'll mistake a family member coming home late and unexpected, for an intruder and shoot them. Also, my children are much less likely to blow their head off if they come across a pipe in the bedroom rather than a gun. If you follow the laws on gun storage, it is impracticle to use one against intruders as it is locked and separate from its ammo. A pipe is ready to go at all times and can be stored anywhere.

Why would you keep an unloaded firearm in your home? It defeats the whole purpose. We are not required by law in the US to have our guns unloaded while at home. That would be kind of silly since it wouldn't be too practical. The key here is to teach all family members about gun safety to avoid any mishaps.

Absolutely excellent point. Gun safety and gun respect go hand in hand. And there should be zero tolerance on the education factor about guns. My dad always told us that a gun was dangerous, and any time we were "messing around", no more gun. Needless to say, we did not mess around. Respect guns, don't fear them.

In Canada, guns are not self defence devices, they are for hunting, hence the rules about having to be unloaded. And don't tell me for a second that an unlocked loaded gun is a good idea in a house with children, regardless of what you teach them. If criminals don't have guns (which they really don't in Canada) there is no reason why you should need one. Protect your family with your gun if you must, but don't expect the court to be lenient when you shoot the meter reader for the gas company because you thought he was an intruder trying to gain access to your home.

Iraq 51st state, Israel 52, Canada 53, Puerto Rico 54, my the list does grow.

But seriously folks, we want all the American culture from the TV we can get. Who spends their evenings watching the CBC all night? boring.

Shopping does not make one a bad Cdn by any means. There ought to be no regulation or limit to what we consumers can buy in the US for our personal use. Cars, clothes, TVs, or anything else. Except weapons and controlled substances of course. And Canada should declare this unilaterally because we are free traders in goods and ideas.

Life could be simpler, if we could allow border officers to focus to security threats rather than the duty on cheese, milk and T-shirts which Cdns can legally buy in the US. Doesn't this seem smart? Let 99% of the traffic pass untroubled, and spend resources on the troublemakers. There is talk of passports being required for crossborder traffic.

RE: Should Canada Become

Aww Travis ... now that's two of us that have picked on you! I suggested the same in the SSMarriage thread! All in good fun, Travis ... everyone has their own opinion.

If you read back, I'm not against joining the US ... that way I can go live somewhere warm and sunny year round! ;) Well, that and I don't agree with the separation of countries period. One world, one people and all that crap.

Actually, the position of 52 is taken. (Iraq) ......although no one is making it "official" as that might be "politically incorrect"

RE: Should Canada Become

Why do so many people who hate Canada show up at a forum called Canadian Content?

Why the hell would anybody move to Oklahama? Even the Okies couldn't stand it there...that's why they left.
