Paranoia seems to be very popular. Even the intellectuals will go to great lengths to prove why they should be paranoid.

Amazing.

Interesting to see what qualifies as main stream in another country.

Believe that evil will come in a form none of you recognize. It will come from yourselves. Not from the Elite. Not from some crazy invasion of Canada by the US.

Loss of liberty in a democratic republic comes more as a function of urban living than from any other reason.

I want Cda to remain indep. but some things work against us. I saw on the CBC a few weeks an exercise of the Cdn military going way up north to retrieve satellite debris in a remote location.

It was a fiasco. Canada lacks a world class icebreaker, so the military vessel had to gingerly dodge the bergybits that could have sunk the ship. Then the military had to use local aboriginal fishing boats to get the soldiers ashore because their choppers did not work.

Basically, in the middle of summer, under ideal conditions, the Cdn military cannot do a simple maneuver up north when called upon. At present, under the current political regime there is no way to spend the millions of dollars necessary to patrol a vast area that will get busier as the Northwest Passage opens longer and longer each year as the earth warms up.

My guess is that the US is a little concerned about our feeble military and the majority of Cdns living within 200 miles of the US don't care. The world is changing, now China and the price of oil is rising, and the experts seemed to have missed it.

I had heard about that satellite thing too, and thought it was really embarassing. Just like our quick response team took a week to get to the tsnumai victims, and had to rent a Soviet airplane. We need to decide if we are going to have an effective and well equipped military, and fund it accordingly, or simply admit that we will rely on the US for our defence, as we do more and more now.

RE: Should Canada Become

Funny how you guys conveniently ignore that every party has a plan to rebuild Canada's military and that the Conservative plan is the only one that would tie our military to the US military, further eroding our sovereignty.

just read it

I am a Canadian, a free Canadian,
Free to speak without fear,
Free to worship God in my own way,
Free to stand for what I think right,
Free to oppose what I believe wrong,
Free to choose those who shall govern my country.
This heritage of freedom, I pledge to uphold
For my self and all mankind.

It defines who Canadians are; it gives us our identity. It is so commanding; it gives us our destiny.

Do you want to be free or to be part of USA Communist State?

What the hell are you guys talking about, you have got it all backwards!!!

Communist state? The US has a very favorable tax policy and no useless social/welfare programs like Canada does for folks do do not want to work. Taking money away from working folks to give to others. It appears to me that the liberals in Canada are the real communists. In Quebec in particular, you can lose over 50% of your salary to taxes. That is pretty close to communism if you ask me!!!

Police state? Same thing ... Canada is the real police state, not the US. In Canada only the police can freely carry their guns, which paramounts to a police state. In Quebec you cannot carry a holstered firearm anywhere. If going to a shooting range, you need to place the gun in the back of your vehicle. Speaking of which, I got damn tired of calling up the police every time I headed out to the shooting range in Quebec. Here in the US I can freely take my glock 19 (9mm) to the shooting range holstered of course (not concealed) and it is perfectly legal. I do not need to register my firearm cause I am a law abiding person. In some states you also do not need a gun license. You can also legally carry your holstered firearm here in lots of businesses (supermarkets, shopping centers, barber shop ...etc). At the library you will need to check it in before you can enter.

Fascist state ... you need to look no further than the seperatists or liberals in Quebec (which is part of Canada). Even the United Nations ruled that they were discriminating against the English speakers, violating them of their civil rights.

After clarifying your statements above, it is clear that Canada is the real culprit here, not the US. If you want to truly live in freedom, the US is the only place.

- God Bless America

I have a good friend that talks NASCAR all of the time, and the interest for me about all of it is the good obsession with detail, the science, the teamwork, the personalities, the rural circuits travelled...but but
I got no clue about most of it.

Regarding the loss of liberty I am warning you that the loss, the real loss is not coming from the usual suspects.
