No WAY!

And if Canada ever does get annexed by the US, I'll be on a plane to England ASAP.

Do we have any choice in all of this?

Does anyone out there in the public realize that this is going on?

Is this why we are forbidden to have referendums?

Is this why we are forbidden proportional representation?

Is this the reason why we can't vote directly for our prime minister?

Thankyou shamus11. That is one of your little poems that should be on the front of every newpaper in Canada.

The answer to the thread title is NO!

I like teasing my American friends by pointing out that if Canada, with a population approximatley the same size as the largest state in the Union (California), was the 51st state, Al Gore would have won the presidency in 2000 regardless of the final result in Florida, and there would not have been a "President George W Bush".

I never did see any bright side with Canada joining with the States, but that definetly is a positive outlook if that were to happen. At least for back then, Imagine a world with no Bush...

If canada were to amalgamate with the US now, I see no benefit whatsoever.

Why on earth would Canada want to "amalgamate" with the US??

Why would CA want to do any of this and then become the target of the same anger , that the US is??? Sheesh. A no brainer. Business as usual .......but not too cozy ....

For the most part there is a pretty good relationship between the two countries. (unless the bush goons open their mouth)

Nasty bunch that they are.

isn't the idea to work together as a team??? and NO, that does not mean do everything the USG way.or whatever the US decides to do in its current deluded mind. Reciprocity, cooperation.......and some genuine give and take.......as in any healthy relationship.

Not sure why anyone would even bring up such a question.....unless it is just for idle "entertainment"

Actually, this idea, if it has any merit, sounds a lot like Europe, a lot of countries, but not a lot of real border crossings as we know it. However, I would caution everyone to get all the facts first before going off half cocked on a tangent that leads nowhere. Do not just take the word of your supporters, go and get the other sides opinion, even if you don't like the other side.

I will be paying attention to the news tonight, though, and if anyone else hears anything, please post?

Plus I'd love to be able to wander down to somewhere permanently warm to live and work!

I tend to see things from a more global perspective. Instead of all the pushing, shoving and protecting turf, everyone would benefit from that time, energy and money being put toward improving the standard of living for everyone.

Idealistic...Yes...But I don't see it as a bad idea at all.

Cosmo, I read your initial post, and found your points quite interesting. Something to think about, that is for sure.

We are already on that slippery slope, with politicians like Harper wanting to slaughter poor defenceless Iraqis because the U.S. does. We have a spineless Federal Government unwilling to stand for our cattle industry, our lumber industry or the human rights of our own citizens.

Canada wouldn't become a state...the provinces would join them, and there would be 60 states...

There would certainly be advantages to both sides if this so-called merger would ever occur.

For obvious reasons, Canada would benefit more than the US (would gain a super power miltary force, US currency, lower taxes ...etc).

The US would get more territory (prime territory at that) naturally allowing it to become even more powerful.

I think not

Yes well, one thing Canadians and Americans agree on, neither one wants that to happen.

According to the Pew Research center, 19% of Americans favor it and 21% of Canadians do the same. Give or take a point or two I'm doing this from memory.

Mom, it's not really paranoia if they're really after you!

I have no idea what the hell you are talking about. NWO? That was a wrestling team in the WCW and the WWF  8)

There is a reality in the world today that the left seems to want to run and hide from, close borders, and think that everything will be fine if Suzuki leads us all in a rousing chorus or Kumbaya, all the while puffing on an environmentally friendly doob. Sorry if I don't buy into your misguided concepts, but I wish you well in your own little world. I prefer the real world, not the pretend world you live in.
