I don't think you're gonna see a lot of loonie-pinching on this particular investigation. If resources are availble for both. But which would be your priority to assign resources to first?

Resources?
You get some people to go his house and you have others that check out the gun.
It really isn't something where you are dealing with strict limits on resources here.
The gun would have a registration number on it that would identify the owner.
Of course it could still be stolen but we may never know either way.
The fact of the matter remains that we should be investigating the source of this weapon and whether or not it could provide leads on any further acts of terror.
Because 1776 was taken?Do you know why a Winchester 1894 is called an 1894?
There are finite number of police officers. If you assign some to search for the source of the gun, you will take them off going to visit his associates and his mosque.
You really are grasping here.

You should really not speak on subjects of which you know nothing.
Yes, the firearm would have a serial number. A number is engraved on the gun. If you write to Winchester, they can tell you what year it was made. That's it. Other than that, ziltch. The serial number is in no way tied to the owner, not since we zapped the LGR.
Well. . .What is the point of getting this information about the gun? Serious question, not meant to be sarcastic,
It would be understandable if it had been a fully automatic firearm, which might mean an organized occurrence....but a lever action firearm, or a car or an axe is more of a lone wolf {pardon the pun) thing....as long as it's not the main focus of the investigation...What is the point of getting this information about the gun? Serious question, not meant to be sarcastic,

Well. . .
With the serial number, Winchester's records should show which gun shop they sent it to. Then the gun shop may have records showing whom they sold it to. It's far from a certainty, but that's how the investigation game goes.
They probably wouldn't, if one is so obtuse as to think that since his 1894 was bought in 1915, therefore all 1894s must have been bought in 1915.Really? My 1894 was bought from T Eaton company in 1915. Would they still have records?
