Something tells me, he's starting to realize just how expensive that costume really is.

The threats are still inexcusable. I remember an ex colleague fired for lying. I saw him the next picking up his paycheck. I greeted him with a hello and have a good day like any other day. I figured it't not up to me to punish him.

So, still searching for the principle here.

Is it "criminalise activity that is highly unlikely to cause actual harm to others?"

Dressing up as a police officer is usually not likely to cause harm either, but it has happened that suddenly he got fought up in an car accident and did'nt know what he was doing. The fact that it could cause harm is enough.

So how much more should he have to pay? Not including money.

OK, so can we criminalise other types of behaviour that "could cause harm?" That being. . . well, pretty much everything.

He got married in the uniform too...chances are everyone around him such as his wife and inlaws thought he had served. Guess buddy is actually from France. He isn't right. We should leave it at that.

Sounds like he might get fired too...

You might have a point. But at present it is illegal. So if it was legalized what would be the harm of every thom dick and harry wearing an elite uniform on remembrance day? Sure a national state of military emergency is not as likely as a car crash that a fake cop could get swept into. But where do we draw the line of likely hood.

Another issue. Recently the military were asked not to put uniforms on in public for their own safety. Maybe not all civilians had read this on the news, but then granted do we protect a person from himself? I don't know the answer?

Then my taxes will help him find another job. Damn him.

You see Tecumseh's bones. We have just identified the harm. The taxpayer!

Machjo, good to see you back...someone resurrected a necro-thread the other day and you were in it and I realized I hadn't seen you in forEVER

honestly, they shouldn't fire him, they shouldn't prosecute him, there's a thread around here about warnings...well this would be an instance in where a warning suffices. I ask you, what balanced person runs around impersonating others? NONE. Buddy is off his meds, or hasn't been put on the right meds, or needs to be prescribed meds. He has brought a world of hurt down upon himself and his family. Poor bastard is likely still in bed.

Sometimes ya just have to walk away, shake it off and let things be.

This is one of those instances.

Having a fake soldier ina real soldier's uniform is obviously a security risk. The uniform is the most basic form of military identification. I don't know what a suitable punishment might be for this fool but he should be made to understand under no uncertain terms that he shouldn't do it again.

I think he should make a public apollogy. Eating crow publically now will probably end what is turning into a witchhunt.

And as mentioned earlier, witchhunts cost us our precious TAXPAYER DOLLARS so should be avoided.

I think if he commits a crime while wearing the uniform he should be charged!

My guess is he probably thought he was showing respect. I can't really see any other motive. It's not like he know the CBC would interview him.

Are you ****ing serious ?

Go skiing for ****s sake

guys a dickwad.

Put on a military beret and walk into a bar, see how long you last.

No, just go skiing, it's safer.

At initial reporting, that is what it seemed like -- a one off which I could have seen as a show of respect. It was only later that it was clearer that this is a more 'routine' occurrance.

The guy is obviously just craving attention and anything that is done to him may just feed his ego. To use the vernacular he's one brick shy of a load.
