Lemme ask you a Q here JLM - Assuming that the IRS isn't lying when they state that roughly 1/2 of the population doesn't pay federal taxes (or qualifies for subsidies that offset any fed taxes they pay) - exactly who is contributing to the tax base to fund society and gvt?

When you say "federal taxes", I wonder if you are referring to income tax (just one of a multitude of taxes that the populace is saddled with) For instance I understand property taxes in the state of Oregon are horrendous, so perhaps part of the half that "don't pay taxes" are from that jurisdiction. As for the smilies C.M. I try to debate in a friendly manner and try to avoid the acerbic manner for which you are known! :smile:
