President Barack Obama is considering nominating Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue, to be either his next ambassador to the U.K. or France, as he looks to reward his biggest fundraisers with embassies that never seem out of fashion, according to two people familiar with the matter.
Wintour, 63, may have some competition for the London posting, with Matthew Barzun, the finance chairman of Obama’s presidential campaign, also interested in the job, officially known as ambassador to the Court of St. James’s, said the people, who requested anonymity.
Both Wintour and Barzun were among Obama’s biggest bundlers in the campaign, with each raising more than $500,000 to help re-elect the president. Marc Lasry, the managing partner and founder of Avenue Capital Management, covets the Paris embassy, said the people.

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch today released records detailing the government funds expended on First Daughter Malia Obama’s March 2012 Spring Break vacation to Mexico. According to the records, obtained from the U.S. Secret Service as a result of a Judicial Watch Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit filed on September 20, 2012, the total cost of the trip amounted to $115,500.87.
The following is a breakdown of the costs as detailed in the documents:
Ground transportation: $23,964.81
Lodging: $21,682.92
Airfare: $47,767.34
“Vouchers”: $21,636.14 (not itemized)

- I was going to put this example in my Character Counts thread on this forum but thought better of it because clearly character doesn't count with the majority of American voters in choosing a president or else Obama would be out on his *** in January. Free condoms and free phones and free food stamps and other free hand outs using other peoples' taxes and borrowed money - after a hefty "processing fee" known as the federal bureaucracy- certainly count but character no longer is a factor in deciding American elections.

Are there any costs available for similar excursions for the offspring of other presidents for say the past 20 years? What would be reasonable costs given the circumstances? Was Gov't business also included in the trip?

Would you really expect it to go down in the winter? That is a condition of the season, very little to do with Gov't.

FYI on Spring Break... It's real purpose is for university age students to head out on a booze-soaked rampage for a week and get laid as much as possible... This kid is 13!
