The goal was to reduce carbon emissions 6% below 2007 levels by 2012.

They reduced carbon emissions 6% below 2007 levels by 2012.

Let me know how meeting your goal is considered a failure now.

That article you posted was simply refuting that two dudes (or ladies) from a University in Ottawa claimed the tax lowered gas consumption.

That doesn't make sense to begin with as it is already understood that the revenue would come from taxes on increased consumption.

The government then uses that money to pay companies that successfully reduce their emissions.

And that's how people can still drive cars and you can reduce emissions.

It's just science mang.

The article you posted tries to refute the claim that carbon taxes lower consumption.

And I never disagreed with the refutation because taxing consumers is the whole premise of the thing lol

A carbon tax is in place because of increased consumption. The whole point is to get money from the consumers and give it to companies that reduce their emissions.

Increased fuel consumption will translate into lower co2 emissions? Really? You want to show the numbers for that, because I really can't wrap my mind around how one of the largest producers of co2, automobiles, can lower co2 by burning more fuel.

C02 from passenger vehicle use went up, but that was offset by reduced emissions from lower extraction.

It makes sense because the source of the problem is the producer, not the consumer.

CO2 went up in cars but carbon monoxide went down and that is the gas that kills people while using just a tiny bit. Eliminate (or decrease) CO2 and there goes the plants that we eat to stay alive. Who thinks the cons up other than the world banksters?
