Are you up in your sleep? I use it for pain relief ... like about enough to cover my thumb nail around three to six hours apart. If you're getting high, you're abusing it

A little innocent abuse once in a while when you're self medicating is entirely understandable, forgive yourself lone wolf. I will light another one up and sacrifice a chicken for relief of your burden later on when the moon rises in the east above the palm trees in the lagoon near the beach.;-)

Smoking a single marijuana joint may be as carcinogenic to the lung as 20 tobacco cigarettes, researchers here determined.

Those who smoked the equivalent of one joint a day for 10 years had a 5.7 times higher lung cancer risk than nonsmokers even after adjusting for tobacco use, reported Richard Beasley, M.B.Ch.B., of the Medical Research Institute of New Zealand here, and colleagues in the Feb. 1 issue of the European Respiratory Journal.
Medical News: Lung Cancer Risk of One Marijuana Joint a Day Equals Daily Pack of Cigarettes - in Psychiatry, Addictions from MedPage Today

Yet:

People who smoke marijuana do not appear to be at increased risk for developing lung cancer, new research suggests.
While a clear increase in cancer risk was seen among cigarette smokers in the study, no such association was seen for regular cannabis users.
Even very heavy, long-term marijuana users who had smoked more than 22,000 joints over a lifetime seemed to have no greater risk than infrequent marijuana users or nonusers.
The findings surprised the study’s researchers, who expected to see an increase in cancer among people who smoked marijuana regularly in their youth.
“We know that there are as many or more carcinogens and co-carcinogens in marijuana smoke as in cigarettes,” researcher Donald Tashkin, MD, of UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine tells WebMD. “But we did not find any evidence for an increase in cancer risk for even heavy marijuana smoking.” Carcinogens are substances that cause cancer.
Tashkin presented the findings today at The American Thoracic Society’s 102nd International Conference, held in San Diego.

Go figure?

I read another study that marijuana by itself doesn't increase lung cancer risk, possibly to some beneficial chemicals which counter act the bad ones.
Yet smoking tobacco and marijuana apparently is far worse than smoking tobacco or marijuana alone.

Which might explain the first two apparently contradictory studies. Marijuana does increase your chances of getting lung cancer... if you also smoke cigarettes.

I've observed that marjuana smokers (unlike tobacco smokers) tend to gag, hack and cough while smoking. That activity might reduce the amount of tar remaining in the lungs.

I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of the health risks were associated with the method of consumption.

Smoking Pot Alters More Than Mood — Human Immune System Affected, USF/UCLA Study Finds

""This suggests marijuana or cannabinoids might benefit someone with chronic inflammatory disease, but not someone who has a chronic infectious disease such as HIV infection," said Dr. Klein, lead investigator of the study."

Pot is not as bad as its opponents would have us believe but it certainly isn't as good as its proponents suggest. Of course, there is also the loss of cognitive thinking skills associated with its use.

Memory, Speed of Thinking Get Worse over Time with Marijuana Use

"St. Paul, Minn. – Memory, speed of thinking and other cognitive abilities get worse over time with marijuana use, according to a new study published in the March 14, 2006, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.
The study found that frequent marijuana users performed worse than non-users on tests of cognitive abilities, including divided attention (ability to pay attention to more than one stimulus at a time) and verbal fluency (number of words generated within a time limit). Those who had used marijuana for 10 years or more had more problems with their thinking abilities than those who had used marijuana for five to 10 years. All of the marijuana users were heavy users, which was defined as smoking four or more joints per week."

One only has to read some of the posts on this forum to see the detrimental effects of marijuana.

The OP here is pure sensationalism, with very little basis in fact. It is just another attack on natural remedies by Big Pharma.

Speaking of "Big Pharma", I see you ran away from the other thread when called to account for your comments.

I didn't run away, I just got tired of your asinine remarks. There is not enough evidence or personal experience to ever satisfy your need to contradict everything and everybody.

Of course there is. If you provide evidence that Kinder is a liar and a killer, I can accept that. Calling him that without evidence is libel which I'm sure you know. Perhaps you should just put up or shut up. Provide evidence that Kindler is is a murderer. It really shouldn't be all that difficult given your wealth of "experience". Of course, now you will probably run away again.

Marijuana isn't harmless. But I'd rate it as less harmful to the individual and society than tobacco or alcohol. People who use these "legal products" and claim they don't use drugs are fooling themselves.

I believe what I experience as well. That is why I believe that cognitive thinking skills deteriorate with pot use. I experience it on a regular basis here on this forum.

You may be right Cannuck, I have on occasion experienced cognitive difficulties however the other destroyer of cognition is proven to be chronic pain. Most if not all patients would far sooner be cognitively embarrassed by cannabis rather than debilitating pain. You seem to be unaware of the extreme effects of the legal junk as it affects that same cognition very negatively, there's a warning on the bottle, don't drive the pills make you too stunned. Go pet your bunny.

Some forum friends may show signs of being on the maryjane for far too long. But on the other extreme, some of the do-gooders oughta roll up a spliff and relax a little. Everything in moderation.

I often wonder what meyhem may have followed in my eighteen wheeltracks when I did east coast to west coast, Arctic Circle to the Mexican border while eating doctor-prescribed (therefore legal and sanctioned) junk like it was M&Ms.

I don't believe a word of that so called study. See if you can convince anyone who has benefited from the use of medical cannabis. You'll never convince any of them, either.
