Uh Joseph - you make no sense.
Read what Spade said again: Quoting Spade
Christianity isn't the only religion whose tenets are not practised by its adherents.'
From what I read, Spade is saying that Christianity is just one of many religions that don't practice what is written in their holy scriptures. Then you turn around and write the following:
I disagree with you here, Spade. Most Christians who claim to follow the Bible are in fact following their interpretation of the Bible. That is the problem with most Holy Books, they support just about anything you want them to support."
Joseph - you're just agreeing with him!

It is matter of semantics, DHW. Spade is saying that Christians don’t practice Christianity. I am saying that to the contrary, all Christians are practicing Christianity, it is just that each has his own interpretation of the Bible.

And since bible says pretty much anything one wants it to say, it follows that they are all practicing Christianity.

Let me give an example. Suppose somebody hates gays, he is into gay bashing (and claims to be a Christian). Spade would probably say that he is not practicing Christianity. I would say to the contrary, he is very much practicing Christianity as he sees it. His Bible tells him that homosexuality is the perversion of the worst kind, and that homosexuals deserve death (Leviticus). So he is indeed practicing Christianity as he sees it.

But is someone's view of Christianity the same as Christianity? No. "Love thy neighbor as thyself".

No - it's NOT a matter of 'semantics
' The definition of semantics reads," The meaning or the interpretation of a word, sentence, or other language form: We're basically agreed; let's not quibble over semantics." (American Heritage Dictionary"
I haven't misinterpreted anything you wrote.
Spade said that, 'Christianity isn't the only religion whose tenets are not practised by its adherents.'
You responded with " I disagree with you here, Spade. Most Christians who claim to follow the Bible are in fact following their interpretation of the Bible"
Trust me - What you wrote has nothing to do with 'semantics'.

That is your opinion, DHW and you are entitled to it. In my opinion, I am saying pretty much the same thing as Spade, that these are not being good Christians. Only we are saying it in different ways, Spade thinks that they are not following the bible, I think they are.

So yes, it is very much a matter of semantics. We are basically agreed (Spade and I), let us not quibble about semantics. Yes indeed, that describes it perfectly.

No Joe, it ain't so. Spade said,"Christianity isn't the only religion whose tenets are not practised by its adherents.'"
that's not the same as what you said. You actually FIXATED on Christianity, wheras Spade was just saying that Christians aren't the only ones who misinterpret their scriptures. You two are saying totally different things and it's not just 'my opinion'. it's what's written in the post.
i know you hate Christianity - although seeing how you know so little about it and tend to generalize - well, I won't go down that rocky road ... but come on, it's as if spade wrote 'the sun is yellow' and you replied with,'no spade,I disagree with you. it's a banana. I don't 'quibble' about semantics.

Hi DHW,

You're right. That's exactly what I meant!

Again, that is a matter of opinion, DHW. Spade may have been talking of all the religions, maybe I was talking only of Christianity. But when it comes to Christianity, we were saying pretty much the same thing, but only in a different manner.

Indeed, let us look at the example you have given. We see an object in the distance; we cannot make out what it is. Spade says it is the sun, I say it is the banana. But we both agree that we are seeing something yellow.

So yes, Spade may be referring to many religions, including Christianity. But where he refers to Christianity, we are talking of pretty much the same thing, though we come at it from different angles.

Here's the meat of it, "Spade said that, 'Christianity isn't the only religion whose tenets are not practised by its adherents.'
You responded with " I disagree with you here, Spade. Most Christians who claim to follow the Bible are in fact following their interpretation of the Bible"
He made a statement, you disagreed with it. It has nothing to do with semantics, it has nothing to do with you two talking about the same thing but coming at from different angles. He said something, you disagreed. If you want to say that you understand but you would like to expand? Feel free to do it, but no. It ain't semantics. It's apples and oranges.
