that's what.

the stuff about delivering flu to canadians and testing LSD on canadians. can't comment beyond "i find it hard to believe".

The stuff about the drones. Just be grateful they dont have US pilots in them or we'd be shot to bits on a daily basis for looking like we might be a terrorist. The USA is paranoid, but we have nothing to hide here do we?

The comment about the LSD isn't paranoia, just history. I posted a news article regarding a woman attempting to sue for the illegal brainwashing she was subjected to by the CIA in the 70's. But, from what I gathered, CSIS was in on that. Her claims aren't being denied, just the statute of limitations is being brought up. You should be able to find the article under my posted threads.

I Think Not is right, Canadians are paranoid too. We are mostly paranoid that our weakling of a Prime Minister will hand everthing over to the States. Harper is likely to do that for a pat on the head from Bush. Why we elect weak willed Cons is beyond me.
If anything, Canada should protect the border from Americans smuggling guns. They needn't worry, Canadians aren't itching to cross over to the States.

Oh come on now Gonzo...

Smell the acrid stench of American arrogance wafting through this thread.... There's good reason for that arrogance mind you.... It's only banana republics and America that can lay claim to elections being stolen, corruption from the top down and jubilant celebrations as their young people wave good bye on their way to die in a war fought to protect the wealthy....Just what every young American dreams of...

A national inferiority complex is what it is. Too many years emulating the American lifestyle. The close proximity didn't help either.

Stolen elections... that is a good one.

A Democrat wins - THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN!
A Republican wins- THE REPUBLICANS STOLE THE ELECTION

You didn't see much hype after the November Elections when the Dems took back Congress did you? I bet if the GOP held onto power all of the conspiracy theorists would be beating the drum.

I dreamed of marching to war as a kid and when I was a 21 year old Marine Corporal I did just that.

MikeDB:

Good post.

It will take a real incursion on our sovereignity to get Canadians upset, but then it will be too late. So far the trade sanctions disquised as precautionary measures, (which you will notice always seems to be implemented when they are angry at us.) are taken at face value by us, trusting as we are.

But one day we will bei pushed to the limit, then we will flex some muscle of our own.

1/ We will devert some of the major water sheds to produce vegetables (yes, we can tongue-in-cheek the best of them too) due to the Americans invoking "precautionary measures" on vegetables. The Americans are familiar with dry spells, but nothing compared to what that would cause. Los Vegas goodbye.

2/ We'll turn off some switches cutting off from the Manic grid power to NY, Vermont and Maritime states.

3/We'll start producing our own armament. The Arrow was way ahead of it's day, and the American politicians were jealous and quite surprised at it's perfomance, and that was too much for American pride, and Canada relented to Boeing and MD. (It took Europe all these years for it to develop today an advanced Eurofighter which today has the characteristics the Arrow had back then.)

4/ We made many promises requested by the US being our friend. One is to not sell to hostile countries our advanced technology in nuclear energy, this we are way ahead of in our field. Now that this friend's friendship is in question maybe North Korea and Iran would be friendlier. Why not. We all have lived through the boisterous face saving threats to the Russions the Americans made during the cold war, making the situation precarious to us. Besides, Iran would gleafully keep us supplied with oil for 50 years for that nuclear privledge, at a cut rate cost to boot.

Not to mention the mild irritation the Americans would experience knowing the technical people from Iran as well as the Chinese are just across the border.

5/ The 200 mile limit becomes a real 200 mile limit and kiss goodbye to the Alaska highway and pipeline, or, can you imagine the duty on oil from the pipeline and toll from the highway.?

We've proven in WW2 we can mass produce frigates at a phenominal rate when called to do so, so pissing us off is not a good idea.

They are dependant on us for a lot of produce and raw material, sometimes an arrogant nation needs a healthy wake up call on occasion just for a point perspective, and methinks one day we will be obliged to provide it.

AndyF

I had to reread this post again for the comedic value. I think my favorite is the ability to mass produce frigates like you did in WW2. How moronic is that! Just for sake of argument and to partake in this paranoia that this gentleman has, lets say this happens. How could you POSSIBLY mass produce frigates under CONSTANT airstrikes. All you have is F-18's which Bush will turn off with a switch because you know Americans put bugs in every piece of equipment we sell. (see sarcasm)

Within days every frigate you have will be at the bottom of some cold Canadian harbor. Ask your buddies in Iran what happened to their Navy frigates after they were scrambled to defend their oil platforms which we blew up with ease.

3 sunk... their 4th turned back to port at FULL SPEED!

and youre proud of that? thats the best you can do with your life?

I am VERY proud of that. Becoming a Marine was one of the best things I have ever done.

But who said that was the best I could do with my life? I am very successful and I owe that to the discipline that I learned from the Marines.

So knocking people's military service... I guess that is the best you can do with your life. Is that how you feel about Canadian military personell?

I dont agree with the decision to make a life of killing and violence but i do believe that a soldier deserves respect. They do jobs which are neccessary and I couldnt (also wouldnt) do them.

Well I didn't make a life of it either. I, like most other US Service members signed a 4 year contract and then you are out, unless you want to stay and sign on for more.

But I also disagree that it is a life of killing and violence. I spent four years in... the killing and violence for me lasted less than three months. Then after that the three months can be broken down even further to moments of actual fighting time.

But it is the career military people that keep the military alive. The senior officers and enlisted. The Majors, Staff Sgts, Lt. Col's, Gunnery Sgts... etc. They have chosen the military as their career and w/o them military organizations would be lost.

OK maybe i exaggerated the killing and violence bit. The reason being i was explainig why i wouldnt do it. I couldnt dela with therisk of being sent anywhere to kill and hurt people. even if the risk was low and the killing and pain was neccessary. But i agree that the military is a good thing (better than no military anyway, that's for sure) and I still believe a soldier deserves respect.

Not all people believe that soldiers deserve respect. We had some yahoo who made the headlines and CNN for filing suit by saying US Service men and women weren't paying their share. He said that they should be made to pay for food, housing, clothing, medical, just like college kids.

What a tool he was.

The military isn't for everyone but I believe that you could do it. You would be surprised what you are capable of if you set your mind to it. On Parris Island I saw tough guys crumble before the DI's and beg to get out and I saw what some people would call a wimp thrive in that environment.

Gee Eagleschmuck ....

I'll just bet you're chomping at the bit to send more young folk to die fighting China now that it's proven it's capable of shooting down satellites...

I'd suggest you start learning Madarin or Cantonese...

All that wonderfully good fun killing people (Nicaragua, Chile, Columbia, South East Asia, the Middle East...) that Marines and "good" Nato countries and "good" Armies from Canada and all the rest won't mean a thing to the standing army of China...

War isn't something to celebrate fool..it's something to be regretted and undertaken only with the intention to protect...not TAKE...which is exactly what America at the Marine Corps have been doing for decades...

Mikey you are right in that war is not to be celebrated. But the soldiers, who do a job which is deemed and often ACTUALLY necessary, should be respected.

LOL... Little Ol' Mickey... always the first to show how ignorant he is.

Silly boy... if you read my post I said the US would not invade China as she is our biggest trading partner and their armies are huge. I was merely pointing out that if China likes to blast satellites out of space we will need to find a way to counter them. I didn't say...

"SEND THE MARINES!"

Chile, nicaragua... etc... when did the Marines go there? Please don't tell me you are talking about the Bananna Wars. Or are you talking about these secret wars we fought that nobody knows about except by silly conspiracy buffs.

Stop humiliating yourself... you look childish with these name calling rants.

Technical note.......the Marines practically controlled Nicaraugua in the late 20s and 30s. The American government installed a right-wing dictator about 1925. A guerilla leader named Sandino led a revolt against him, and the Marines went in to defend the status quo. (Sandino.......Sandinistas....get it?) Sandino was murdered in the mid-30s, and the US government set up the regime that ruthlessly ruled the country until 1979.

Not the Americans' finest hour, BTW.

That is what I was referring to... the Bananna Wars that happened 80 years ago.

There weren't that many Marines down there either and they did control those places. It was more than Nicaragua too.
