My deployment in Bosnia was front line right in the thick of things...those guys need comms too you know.

Comm guys are NEVER up front. What the heck are they going to do but get in the way. They fix our radios and tell the brass what's going on from their comm vehicle well in the rear. They pass out our radios and clean them when we bring them back.

Pretty cool how Canadian troops, no matter what their TQ is, all get the best training eh! Of course we also act like it's a team sport and work together.

Uh huh. Any more war stories hero? lol

Ya, where did all this come from?

This is news to me. Especially since you questioned my service. Why didn't you mention something then?

Who were you with?

Don't sweat it Bear. All the Rear Echelon pouges claim they were in the front lines. Heck I knew an air traffic controller who went on like he was Audie Murphy in the Gulf.

Some Admin guy was going over my record book and said he was a SAW gunner. I said...

"A SAW gunner... yet you're updating my SRB behind a desk?"

It's a disease... lost glory.

Who were you with?

He can't tell... it's a Secret and he swore an oath.

What a tool.

I called them immoral? I said i would act just like them?

I for one am no fan of the RoE. I much prefer to operate by my opponents rules.

There you go, answered your own question. You want to operate by their rules so all you morality is reduced to equal with theirs.

Well, if this is the kind of stupidity we are to expect from the NDP.......the Liberals will be back soon.

And the Conservatives will rule for a long, long time.

And this idiot is not a newbie, he is the Deputy Leader!!!!
Unless something changed in the last 2 days Libby Davis is the deputy leader of the NDP. Do they have more than 1?

Absolutely beyond belief.

The official opposition.

It's embarrasing.

...I suspect everything a Dipper does is going to be scrutinized, sniffed for content, extracted from context and used against them by the all-or-nothing crowd. Pictures that aren't going to be seen beyond those few eyes that have, for all intents and purposes, don't exist....

Just a couple of things to throw out there for contemplation.

It has to be questionable of how OBL was apparently killed over 800 miles from any ocean and yet had already been buried at sea within 12-14 hours of his death supposedly with all Islamic traditions considered and adhered to and before any photo's or video or any other proof of his death could be delivered to the public. It will be interesting to see if any such proof actually ever surfaces now his body has been conveniently disposed of where no one can ever find it or confirm his death.

I will predict right now that sometime in the next few months there will be a large scale 'attack' within the borders of the US that will be blamed on OBL supporters that will result in further removal of the people's rights and the implementation of what will amount to martial law and a police state. Do not think that your freedom will be restored from his death whether it be real or not. Increased security is already happening and the 'threat level' has already been increased.

Be extra aware in the next few days/weeks of quiet announcements regarding the continual economic meltdown and the predictions of many experts that the worst is yet to come. All this media frenzy over OBL will be used to deflect from the real issues that affect our lives regarding economic failure and the fall of the US dollar as the accepted main trading currency in the world. I would also be very aware of sudden moves to have integrated security of North America using US military forces and expansion of the patriot act.

Oh, okay. Now I see why people in the thread are giving you a hard time.

None of what you predict is going to happen.

We can all hope you are right and I am wrong. Nothing would please me more than to be wrong about further removal of freedoms and a collapsing economy. I hope we all pull out of Afghanistan, but I doubt it will happen. I hope that the US and its citizens are safer today than on Saturday, but I doubt it. I hope the patriot act is repealed or allowed to expire in May, but I doubt it.

The Americans celebrating bin Laden's death confounded me in many ways, but one of them was that level-headed Americans had come to the conclusion that bin Laden and al-Qaeda were no longer a really, really serious threat to them personally. Despite what mentalfloss says, the U.S. mission to destroy al-Qaeda has been largely successful (and that was the main mission, or at least the important mission/Bush had this grander idea of spreading democracy and fighting tyranny no matter what form it came in). Al-Qeada can't seem to launch major terrorist attacks on the U.S. itself anymore. Sure, there are followers and sympathizers who make bombs, hide them in their clothes, and can't make them explode when they are supposed to. But they're just people who have never been trained by Qaeda. They just do it on their own.

As 9/11 became more and more of a memory, most Americans did mature somewhat about terrorism and being threatened by it. That's one reason I'm puzzled by the celebrations of bin Laden's death. It couldn't have solely been a sign of relief because Americans weren't as threatened by al-Qaeda as much as they used to be.

No, it was a victory celebration plain and simple. A well deserved celebration.

I can understand it in the field bru. But at home? I saw it as a little distasteful.

Well hey, I can respect your opinion. I think we all just got so caught up in it. Personally, I don't see it as such. It was our turn to cheer.

A poster said "Americans complained when they cheered over in the middle east after 9/11. Hypocrites"

A. We did complain and we did get pizzed off.

B. I never heard anyone say that we wouldn't do the same.

I was surprised to see the place explode in cheers and the crowds in front of the White House and NYC. They even gathered at the Boston Common and Harvard yard. I must admit though that I was pleasantly surprised.

I did my basic in Petawawa, was a member of 74 Comm group throughout my time as reg and res, was in Cyprus and Bosnia attached to 1 R22eR (yes I earned a maroon beret but got a few laughs for having sparks on it) and spent time at a few diffierent locations in Canada including CFB Aldergrove, Esquimalt, Chilliwack, Suffield, Wainright and Cold Lake. Classification was RTOp 214, achieved a rating of expert on the FNc1 and sidearm and left with an honorable discharge in 1993 having achieved a rank of Captain the year before.
