The election may be over but Jack Layton's smile just got a little bigger today.
Another Tory riding has changed colors after a Judicial Recount. Conservative
member Bernard Genereux, had initially won the seat by a narrow margin.
A recount discovered the NDP were shortchanged by a hundred votes that went
to the Greens instead. After that recount, the NDP had the seat by a few votes.
A third recount a Judicial Recount confirmed the NDP victory by just 9 votes.
Its now NDP 103 the Conservatives 166.
Interesting this election is just like the winter it refuses to go away. The news
source for this story was on CBC.

I mostly understood what they said (it has been 40 years since I lived in Quebec). And I agree with the sentiment. I think Quebecers saw that Jack had the best chance to represent their interests in Ottawa because he is the strongest voice, at this time, that could sit in opposition to the Harper government. Harper did a fine job of castrating Iggy and ignored Jack until it was too late to castrate him too. Quebecers were smart enough to see that a vote for the Bloq would have just split the the number of seats on the opposition side and that the Liberals were dead in the water from the get go.

I am very happy for Jack Layton and NPD! They are going to be stronger against the conservatives and so better to defend the interests of Quebec in Ottawa. For an ancient Bloquiste, it is important since I still do not have abandon the independence of Quebec. It is a dream which is dear to me and I think that I am not the only one!
Good courage in NPD

It is too bad that the separatists can't see past their noses, that their idealism would lead to their own demise. Their future is brightest within Canada. Separation is blinding them to what really needs to be done and that is strengthening their position within Canada, not weakening it.

One of my friends from Newfoundland told me jokingly that it would be good for Quebec
to leave Canada so he wouldn't have so far to drive to Toronto.
I believe there is two sets of agenda's in Quebec. First of all an independent Quebec is
the dream of many older Quebecers and that will only be changed by death.
The other view is from the young. They see the world is changing and they are more
about jobs, education, owning a home, and being part of a stable human environment
and that is by maintaining their investment in Canada.
I think there is a bright future for this country, and young Quebecers understand they are
living in a global environment and that means if they were outside of Canada their future
would be swallowed up by the world. Canada would also be diminished.
I think the young people there do see beyond the end of their nose and that is why they
did what they did

I don't know how much better they can speak for Quebec from a minority position. Bonne chance all the same....

Separatism in Quebec is, IMHO, becoming a moot point to a growing majority of the young people in the province. I find that the younger generation has a much more global outlook than I had in my day. Through the magic of social networking our youth are finding themselves with friends all over the world now. Where once I had pen-pals, they now have communities that can instantly communicate with each other. This ability gives them a broader outlook on the their country's and their own place in the world.

Well. It will be interesting to see if the NDP hangs on to them when the next election happens. Quebec voters can turn on a dime.

Or a big bag of Federal Money LOL

Sorry El Barto couldn't resist.

After four long years with Jack and his kid-lets with nose rings in parliament I bet no one in Quebec ever votes dipper again. ANd hopefully no where else in the country either.
