18 US states to raise min wage this year.

Minimum wage hikes in 18 states set for new year | TheHill

The minimum wage in Washington state will rise to $11.50 an hour, up 50 cents and the highest statewide minimum in the nation. Over the next three years, the wage will rise to $13.50 an hour, thanks to a ballot measure approved by voters in 2016.

Cutting costs and spending less has a hell of lot more impact on a person's financial situation than trying to compete with everyone else in the country with wage increases. :) :)

Try not to be an asshole all your life. I can name about 10 areas you can check out, it doesn't take much imagination unless you are an imbecile. There's probably a few people who can't but most can. Turn down the heat a couple of degrees and put on a sweater. Use an out door clothes line on fine days instead of the electric dryer. Repair worn clothing with a patch or a darn instead of throwing out and buying new. Check out flea markets and rummage sales. Walk where possible instead of driving or using the bus. Get the idea, Einstein? P.S. I've drank 2 cans of beer in 5 years!

Hoid/MF as either profile just posts things to stir the pot, JLM. He's trying (and failing) to be meaningful.

He's starting as MF this morning. We'll have to wait until later before he morphs into Hoid.

The old adage rings true.

The more you make, the more they take.

It's the government way.

It only helps those with jobs. It doesn't increase employment and probably increases unemployment.
No doubt it increases unemployment. Wages don't just go up for people on the bottom, minimum wage artificially pushes all wages up. If someone's sitting at $15/hr now after working up to it for the last couple of years, do you think they're going to want to be "bumped back down" to minimum wage? Not a chance. Why should someone who has earned their way up to $15 from $11 now expect to make the same as someone just starting out?

Pretty simple concept, when the cost of wages goes up for a business without an increase in productivity, the equation will be brought into balance by either increasing prices, or decreasing their labour force. Those people looking for a foot in the door who are willing to work for less will be out of luck.

lets do what all leftards secretly want. set the minimum wage to 50 dollars per hour. it is all good right?

Wynne has a plan for that as well...of course it requires a bit more tinkering...

Ontario to launch guaranteed minimum income pilot program in Hamilton, Lindsay and Thunder Bay | Financial Post

"Premier Kathleen Wynne announced Monday that basic annual income for start at $17,000"

I wonder how things will look as Ontario's Equalization transfers continually dwindle as a result of the slow down in the west. I mean...it almost seems like the Ontario Liberals are purposefully trying to sabotage their own economy to stay under the wire for their free federal handouts.

Little did we know that raising min wage to $17,000 a year would cause such an economic doomsday.

We give Syrian refugees $25,000 per family.

I would be embarrassed if I owned a business that paid anybody $17,000 a year.

You should be more embarrassed in the complete lack of comprehension you display. The link says nothing about minimum wage being raised to $17,000 a year.

I was trying to cut you some slack pal.
Accusing a teetotaller of being drunk is hardly "cutting slack"!

Doesn't the amount paid depend a lot on what the employee does, how responsible he/she is, their skill and knowledge level? A figure with no other details means absolutely nothing. For a full time job $10 an hour = about $20 grand a year before taxes. So I would guess $17000 would be for part time work.

The entire Syrian situation was made with very little planning, thought or consideration, just bone head f**king plan made on the spur of the moment to gain popularity for the planner. And absolutely no consideration for the destitute people living here in the first place. We don't even have enough medical people or teachers to service our own population.

It's called a minimum income program, not minimum wage program. A wage is monetary compensation for work done. This program is the liberals handing out money for nothing.

Tough to grasp I guess, but keep trying...you may get it yet.
So what will happen is that you will make $15 an hour and make as much as you can make, and you will get topped up to $17,000.

I would work for half and hour and take the other $16,982.50 in top up.

$15 an hour will take you well over $17 grand w/o any top up!
