It only helps those with jobs. It doesn't increase employment and probably increases unemployment.
No doubt it increases unemployment. Wages don't just go up for people on the bottom, minimum wage artificially pushes all wages up. If someone's sitting at $15/hr now after working up to it for the last couple of years, do you think they're going to want to be "bumped back down" to minimum wage? Not a chance. Why should someone who has earned their way up to $15 from $11 now expect to make the same as someone just starting out?
Pretty simple concept, when the cost of wages goes up for a business without an increase in productivity, the equation will be brought into balance by either increasing prices, or decreasing their labour force. Those people looking for a foot in the door who are willing to work for less will be out of luck.
lets do what all leftards secretly want. set the minimum wage to 50 dollars per hour. it is all good right?
Wynne has a plan for that as well...of course it requires a bit more tinkering...
Ontario to launch guaranteed minimum income pilot program in Hamilton, Lindsay and Thunder Bay | Financial Post
"Premier Kathleen Wynne announced Monday that basic annual income for start at $17,000"
I wonder how things will look as Ontario's Equalization transfers continually dwindle as a result of the slow down in the west. I mean...it almost seems like the Ontario Liberals are purposefully trying to sabotage their own economy to stay under the wire for their free federal handouts.
