You know, continually hearing people saying this is making me actually want to hold a parade for him, give him a hug.... hell, I'll even get him a job and find him a girlfriend..... just to spite and piss people off who keep saying we should do it.

I'm sure you would. Why don't you just give him your girl...that will really get us pissed.

Ha ha.... yeah the evil AK in the background while he held up the Quran... That's proof enough he's a terrorist alright.

Oh wait.... how many google images can I find online of an American holding up the Bible with a gun rack in the background filled with pistols and assault rifles?

Dat der fella's one dem Ter'ists!

Any pictures of them after an engagement with US Forces abroad?

Conrad didn't kill anyone.

You're wrong on this one Walter........for the following reasons....

1. Khadr was a child soldier, brainwashed into a way of life before he was old enough to make his own choices. (Please Read Long Way Gone by Ismael Bael for a look at the experiences of a child soldier)

2. It was not murder.......to charge someone with murder for throwing a grenade at you after you just dropped a 1000Kg bomb on them is ludicrous.

3. The average killer in the USA serves 8 years........Khadr has already been in well over that.

4. Military tribunals are UNCONSTITUTIONAL. Read the Fifth Amendment to the US Constitution.

5. The Americans have shown that they are not willing to give him any semblance of a fair trial in any case, they dismissed his preferred defense lawyer, and simply blocked any avenue to justice Khadr's team has tried to follow.

It is simply time to end this, and bring him back to Canada.

Had they shot him dead on site in Afghanistan, I would have no problem with that. They did not, they chose to bring him to the USA, now they have to accord him all the rights he is entitled to.....and they have not.

As for the adult portion of the Khadr family, I would like to see them tried for treason and hanged from lamp posts along Yonge Street......

And what point was that? You just spouted off the same thing that many others have said many times in the past towards anybody who suggests anything other then killing him or locking him away forever.

That he has a fan base and you added that you rather get him settled down with a Canadian chick just to get us mad.

Also you saying that all those pictures, where he was, and the nature in which he found himself at GITMO are not proof enough. I wouldn't ever think that would be enough for you.

He's just a sweet innocent Canadian boy, caught in the wrong place at the wrong time right?

I agree with you, although I guess this is one of those polarized subjects (like abortion) where you just aren't going to change everyone's mind. However I guess the international rules of war are a lot different than natural laws on crime, and we have to live with that.

Trying to get personal with me will not work.

Work at what?

Well maybe you have a sister...or your girlfriends sister...or a friend's sister. I am sure that whomever you hook him up with their parents will simply love you for it.

Actually, I changed my mind....I used to defend the Americans keeping him......then

I read Ismael Bael

I read the Fifth Amendment

I saw an interview with his defense lawyer

And I did a 180 degree turn.

That is what should be assumed until proven otherwise.

What relevance would that have?

The whole argument is the picture of him holding the Q. and an AK in the background as being evidence that he's a terrorist.... now suddenly I point out the flaws in that argument based on the given justifications, and now you want to try and nit pick other hypotheticals to somehow justify your previous hypothetical?

Hell, I'm sure american troops have piles of photos of people they shot or otherwise got in the crossfire during a battle, terrorists, civilians and allied troops alike.... a photo of someone shot up on the battlefield is not evidence of them being a terrorists, a civilian villager or a contract plumber..... all it is, is evidence of someone lying on the ground, shot and bleeding.

If you followed the conversation from the point where I commented on people who say what you said, then you saying what you said, then my response to what you said, you'd see why I said what I said. ;-)

Also you saying that all those pictures, where he was, and the nature in which he found himself at GITMO are not proof enough. I wouldn't ever think that would be enough for you.

Considering the greater majority of the prisoners at Git were sent there under very similar circumstances and then later released back to their countries or where they were found with all charges dropped and the long list of clearly innocent people who were abducted by the US based on hearsay and circumstantial evidence..... it would be easy to conclude that besides all of the above you mentioned is circumstantial in the eyes of the law, but the Gitmo courts are going to have to do a hell of a lot better with their evidence then what they currently have to convict someone in any legit manner other then the equivalent of a witch hunt.

He's just a sweet innocent Canadian boy, caught in the wrong place at the wrong time right?

I wouldn't know, nor would I care if he was sweet or not... present evidence easily concludes there isn't enough evidence to find him guilty and even by the remote possibility they find a justifiable way of finding him guilty, he's still a child soldier.... which means the US has a lose/lose situation on their hands with Omar and this joke of a clown court.

The only real reason why this whole case has been going on for so long is because officials in the US responsible for this fiasco are still tying to figure out how to come out of this mess without looking like complete idiots.

Nit pick? C'mon Prax. Open your eyes. You're the type that could see a ship load of evidence but your emotions would rule over any logical examination.

My country right or wrong! Right Smack. The evidence doesn't back up your assertions. I would say that it is you who is blinded by your devotion to, your allegiance to your your flag. Must be a Marine thing - unquestioning obedience to command: right or wrong.

From the very beginning of this whole debacle, I never once had any emotional relation or attachment to this case or Omar himself. I've been following the evidence, reports, etc. from the beginning, and it wouldn't matter if this kid was from Canada, Germany, Japan or Ireland.... my views are based on how the available evidence would hold up in a real court and even if this was an American citizen we're talking about, my position would remain exactly the same as it does now.

There is no legit evidence against this individual to find him guilty for the charges against him, let alone to hold someone for so long and subject them to various forms of torture. The troops involved in this situation have contradicted their statements, there is no eye witness to undoubtedly confirm he actually did what they claim he did and the only motive I can see in this case is the motive of the mob and the US authorities to make an example out of the son of a high profile terrorist..... sins of the father if you will.

In any other court, be that US or Canadian court, this whole case would have been tossed out due to insufficient evidence, yet this clown court Bush invented basically makes a complete mockery of the justice system and a mockery of the US soldier(s) who died from this incident.

The only remote level of emotion I have in this case is towards the complete disregard of our Prime Minister to do the right thing and ensure the rights of a Canadian Citizen are protected as they should.

Hell, Robert Pickton did far worse then what this kid is being charged for, and he still had all his rights protected in the court.

My concern is when one's own rights are skirted (no matter how evil they seem to be) and the rule of law is twisted to suit an agenda other then real justice.... then there is no justice to begin with, which means this entire situation is all for nothing.

If they had more solid evidence against him, If they actually took him through the proper courts and procedures and If they actually found him guilty.... I wouldn't have any issue... in fact it'd be an open/shut case with very little to debate.

The problem is that they tried to set an example and tried to make a court case out of nothing.... which is exactly why this has taken so long already, because there is nothing they can use besides holding him for so long that eventually they hope people will just get accustomed to thinking he's guilty based on the fact that he's being detained and hasn't been released for so long now.

It simply won't work..... so until this clown court can figure out what to do next without looking like 2nd rate amateurs with their fingers shoved up their arses, they'll just keep this dragging out for as long as possible.

Just remember Eagle.... I'm not the one who had his country's soldier killed in combat and holding a kid responsible for what happened. You have more grounds for holding emotion in this case then I.... afterall, Omar is still alive.... the US medic is not.

Omar Khadr was captured fighting against Canadians, Americans & UN forces, what does that have to do with dedication and allegiance something that seems to be lacking by some. We did what we were told to do, yes. He is alive and well because of it. He was very lucky man.

I don't know. If half the stories of his treatment at Gitmo are true, I would rather be dead. There is no evidence that he deserved that kind of treatment. If US soldiers were treated like that, there would be hell to pay. But it's OK because the US is the good guy, right? God is on your side, right? What a bunch of crap.

Oh thats our Cliffy... painting with a broad brush per usual.

Nope.... you're right...no evidence at all. It is quite common for Canadian youths to pose with AKs and play with anti-tank mines...and to be caught on the battlefield in a foreign country. No proof whatsoever...a common occurrence I would assume for typical Canadian kids.
