Naw....actually it comes from being raised by the two best individuals I have ever met, honest, compassionate, patient, tolerant, very, very religious back woods Baptists.....in a house full of guns.

That paints a pretty picture.

Actually it comes from a fascination with history, and a recognition that firearms and freedom are parallel developments.

You need to read more history.

Actually, it comes from an interest in current events, in political development and culture........and the realization that the existence of an armed population in the canary in the mine.....when they start taking a free man's (or woman's) arms from him (or her), the rest of their rights are soon to follow.

I'm sure you're aware of the widespread and ongoing violations of rights going on in the United States in the past 13 years. The US government seems to have skipped the 'take yer gun' step. How can Obama just spy on everyone and execute citizens without trial and not take down the second amendment first?

I grew up on the wild frontier. Raised by deeply religious coyotes on a steady diet of cactus, tumbleweed and Jesus Christ.

Oh, get over it. Maybe you won't admit it to yourself, but I that's just some retroactive hoop jumping bull**** you do to cover up the fact that it all boils down to you growing up watching cowboy shows on TV... or for you Colpy was it the radio? Wait.. wild west show? Did Buffalo Bill come to town and shot a hole in yer pa's cap?

I take it you are Ok with the government trampling peoples rights and stealing private property.

.I've spent 40 years reading history. And yes, thank you, I will read more. But I already know a few things about the basic rights of all persons.

As for the USA, I fully agree their freedom has shrunk over the last 13 years, as it has in Canada. And I don't like it. I think it is counter-productive. However, the USA is still one of the freest nations on earth,. As long as there is a functioning democracy and judicial system, it is not time to man the barricades. It is always best to use the ballot box, the cartridge box is for when the ballot box is no longer available. Perfection, as Plato said, exists only in the mind of God. An armed population is not a perfect solution, it is a deterrent to tyranny, not a "magic bullet", so to speak.

I believe they've been banned since the 1930's. She's obviously playing to the low-information voter.

The media will buy it hook line and sinker. There is barely a brain among all of them. Bet it will make front page of the Toronto Star Enquirer.

related:

From a post published four days ago by Malcolm Pollack:
In Chicago, a city of 2.7 million people, fewer than 8,000 people are licensed to own a gun – less than 0.3%. The city’s gun-homicide rate is about 18 per 100,000. In Vermont, by contrast, where 42% of the population are gun owners, the rate of gun murders in 2010 was 0.3 per 100,000. So Chicago has a gun-homicide rate about 60 times Vermont’s, despite Vermonters being 150 times as likely to own a gun. To put that another way, in Chicago the ratio of the gun-homicide rate to the percentage of citizens who legally own guns is nine thousand times higher than it is in Vermont.

Might I suggest that if you have something to say, you say it??

Naw....actually it comes from being raised by the two best individuals I have ever met, honest, compassionate, patient, tolerant, very, very religious back woods Baptists.....in a house full of guns.

Or, to be concise, WTF do you find wrong with the above??

For all your proud Canadian rhetoric you spew you don't miss a chance to defend this American president against those that would disagree with him?...........

I think you have me mistaken for someone else.

I take it you are Ok with the government trampling peoples rights and stealing private property.

Why leave it to just the government? More weapons means more trampled rights, more stolen property. Not the other way around. You know when two armed groups have a disagreement over rights and property, we call that war. Unfortunately, the cowboy movies never showed much collateral damage but the rest of us will be effected by your stupid macho fantasies.

.I've spent 40 years reading history. And yes, thank you, I will read more. But I already know a few things about the basic rights of all persons.

I would hardly call the American government functioning and if you think the ballot box is going to stop the US government from spying on and murdering its own citizens, you're dreaming. The only thing armed Americans are willing to defend are gun rights and apparently cattle. The great second amendment dream failed. Americans don't want freedom. They want guns and beef.
