Do you know nothing of ancient Greece, Rome, Egypt, Assyria, Babylon...? Look it up. It's common knowledge.
History is very ambiguous; historians only try to reach to what was there. Look it up and see how they investigate and put probabilities.
If we want to see the past, we should study the present society and community. People are almost the same.
If we ask several men about God, they will give several explanations about God. Some Christians even consider Jesus the God and the son of God at the same time, and some of them said Jesus is the Creator. Glory be to God Almighty.
Moreover, if we ask Muslims particularly some of the rural: we shall be astonished about their ignorance about God, and they may attribute some divine features to some imams. In other words, they returned like the Arab of the pre-Islam period.
The Arab of the pre-Islam ignorance as an example:
They knew and recognized God Almighty and Most Gracious: the Creator, but they said that they worshipped their
patrons in order that such patrons may intercede for them before God.
(
If you [Mohammed] ask them [: the associaters]: "Who created the heavens and the earth and subjected the sun and the moon?" they will say: "God [did all that.]
How then are they turned away [from worshipping God to worshipping the stones?] )
The above between brackets is the explanation of the Quran 29: 61
Therefore, people everywhere and everywhen know God Almighty, but may be with different names. And there had been some distortion of their original religion of God into polytheism and idolatry.
I saw a Korean football player, when he scored a goal, he lifted his head towards heaven and put his hands together to show gratitude to God.
