I'm not sure that Tiger Williams lacked class, actually he was a very good two way player, tough defenseman but believe it or not he scored 35 goals one year as I recall. Probably holds some kind of record for penalty minutes. I think Hextall was actually just as vicious if not more so than Billy Smith.

Then of course there was Dave "cement head" Semenko of Edmonton Oilers fame mid 80s. Big and dumb.

McInnis was a very classy player and a very good player for many years, I wouldn't call him a classless
player at all, he will be in the 'hall of fame'.

In my opinion tiger williams lacked class, he was a hot dog, rode his stick around like a twit, a very
poor skater, and had a big mouth and a big ego.

Actually I think it was about 40 goals, we are both scratching our heads wondering
how that freak stat ever happened, a one n out.

I felt embarrassed that he was a canuck, he should have stayed in toronto.

He wasn't a defenceman.

I consider jerome iginla one of the classiest players in the NHL, a great player, a gracious person,
always a happy interview, never whines, he is over the peak of his career, now winding down, but
that happens for all players, time stops for no one.

It's called trolling. What I find exquisite, is that he was a mod that abhorred trolls.

Goalie stick like a scythe, Dominik Hašek, Ron Hexstall.

your're just embarrassed because you didn't get it, its OK, maybe you are human after all.
kreskin is one of my favourite posters, not a troll at all, but definitely has
a good sense of humour, maybe he gives lessons.

I don't think that Kreskin is being serious.;)

Yer just tryin to save his ass.............;-)

Too late, K; the Gretsky mafia is comin fer ya.

No, I said Goons.

ROTFFLMAO...........

Quite a few years ago Tiger Williams came to our little burg on exhibit or with a Jr. team of some sort, to raise funds..............for something...........like I said, long time ago. He got on the ice, barreled down the ice and banged into the far boards. Turned around, barreled back, banged into the near boards. Held up his stick, gave a sappy grin, and skated off - to a standing O. The house was packed so I guess they made some money..........for something.

Yeah, there was sure nothing lacking with McInnis' playing ability. I just didn't like his attitude toward people he considered inferior to him.

Ti Domi, classless (dated little Miss Belinda) and stupid.

But pound for pound tough as nails.

Avery goes without saying. Tim Hunter would be on my list as would Ryan Kesler. Patrick Roy for sure. Steve Durbano would definitely make the list but he played more than 25 years ago I think.

Avery would have to win for players currently on the ice.

Roy as a coach should be in jail - demanding that his son (a goalie) skate the length of the ice to jump on and pound the other goalie, who was doing nothing, that's class.

He also got mad at a game here in town, threw a chair and smashed a toilet in the dressing room. What a maroon, as bugs bunny would say.

A guy that got a mention as McSorleys' victim, was also a classless jerk: Donald Brashear. Fighting is one thing, whether you agree that it has a place or not, but that whole dusting the hands whenever he won one never did sit well with me.

A more recent player that made a lot waves for a while with his play was Steve Downie. I loved him on the Canadian Jr squad but in the NHL, he showed a dangerous lack of respect for other players, with the way he charged around and head-hunted.

I saw Hextall and Billy Smith mentioned, but I have to confess that I didn't have issues with them (Hextall was definately the more viscious of the two!). Yes, they wielded the lumber on opposing forwards, but those forwards were usually infringing on their crease space or hacking at them for loose pucks after the whistles had gone. That never bothered me as much, maybe because both of the afore mentioned goalies also spent time in the blue & white of my Isles, but also because their hacking at forwards became prominent after Clint Malarchuk had his throat cut by a forward charging the net and the NHL did nothing for a LONG time. I also remember Hextall taking a run at Chris Chelios in the playoffs against Montreal, after Chelios had taken out the Flyers leading scorer, Brian Propp, a couple games before, with a dirty hit, again to which the league did nothing. I thought Hextall was playing within "the code" of the time when players retaliated against those who took too many liberties with their stars, and that Chelios deserved his pounding :p

It's hockey. If it weren't for the goons half the fans wouldn't be fans. Nobody goes to auto races to see cars go in cicrles, they go to see crashes.

Overstated but true: we love the speed, skill and violence of the sport. Most hockey fans want the hits, want the contact, want the aggression. We've all seen some great games without fights (like in the Olympics but even in the NHL playoffs, etc.) but fights do get a crowd worked up. The figure skating analogy some former players/analysts use at times is also overstated but its also true in that the fans don't want the game watered down too much.

It would seem that most of the classless have already been mentioned. I do take some issue with with a few because some of the "tough guys" may get a bad rap but still have stayed within the 'code' of the time (ie Tiger Williams).

Lindros is the worst offender in my mind. It was all about him on the ice and a mindless, arrogant baby off the ice.
Avery is a definite top pick. How this guy made the league is baffling, how he stays is a mystery of the universe.
Roy is up there too. Plenty of talent but another arrogant and ignorant man towards the game and the fans.

I'm sure there are more names to be tosssed in for many reasons, some valid and some not, but those are my top 3 players.

Just for fun.....
Most classless coach - Mike Keenan

Most classless in all of hockey - GARY BETTMAN

Contrary to a lot of opinions I was never too impressed with Pavel Bure, he was fast, he was nice to watch for 10 seconds of a game, and he could put the puck in the net. I thought he had an elitest attitude and the goals he scored may have been the result of a couple of diggers and muckers getting the puck out of the corner and away from the boards, but it seemed most of the credit for the goals went to Pavel. I know I'm going to get jumped on for my assessment but right or wrong I have that feeling.

While I can agree with you about his elitist attitude and not playing a full 60 minutes I don't think he was classless to his teammates, the fans, or the media. I also remember when he signed an $8 million contract that only had $4 million guaranteed and the rest was all performance based bonuses (his idea). You got to give him credit for only taking the big money if he performed.

Yep, on this we can agree!
