A fifty percent tax will not work, the people most addicted to junk food will pay the same
as druggies, or alcoholics, or smokers for that matter. Face it the only way to get people
to change is through education and incentives and the pocket book is a good head start.

A tax would affect the pocket book!

If you need somebody to tell you that you are fat, lazy, smoke too much, drink too much. and have piss poor nutritional habits you're a basket case and there is no point in bothering "helping" you.

Financial incentives are a joke if you are that far gone.

It's not about price, it's about taste and laziness.

Cabbage is dirt cheap, beans are dirt cheap, rice, oats, fruit, are all cheap. Eating those 5 items will keep you in excellent health and fat will burn off like gasoline.

I'm not your dad, go find one if you need one to give you ****, but don't look to me for sympathy if you are too lazy and ignorant to take care of yourself.

You nailed it.

The fastest way to get people to assume responsibility for their health is to allow the natural consequences to come into play. No one should have the expectation that an entire system should be everything to all people.

Pursue horrific nutritional habits, then pay for your own MRI from a specialty provider - want to race MX and screw your back, knees and shoulders to the point where you need extensive prosthetics and surgeries - ante up and pay the piper.

It amazes me that people are fast to pay the money to get themselves into the soup, but the moment that a cost is associated to reverse these poor decisions, there is no interest whatsoever.

My life long buddy is an alcoholic. two years ago he had renal failure from drinking and he now goes for dialysis. He thinks it's the greatest thing in the world to be able to drink MORE than before.

Unfortunately, that attitude pervades in all areas of healthcare... Just consider that the an*lysts are already predicting an obesity epidemic among teens and youth throughout North America, yet the family's answer is to go get another X-Box, faster internet hook up and Netflix account.... Of course, all of the aforementioned will be accompanied by copious amounts of chips and soda.

No problem dropping $500 on junior to sit on their *** for hours at a time, but will turn around and act horrified when they fins out the cost of their diabetes medication (despite it being heavily subsidized)

Kid aren't allowed to play at school anymore. Somebody might get hurt and have life long troubles.

Wanna know what really pisses me off about it? he lost his license for life so the geniuses that run the Province set him up with taxi vouchers to get to and from the renal clinic but he uses them to get to the pub and home again.

The money aspect of paying for dialysis is a non-issue, he has the money to pay.

Laziness? Give your empty friggin head a shake!

Maybe all that stuff is "Dirt cheap" where you're at, but it's NOT where I am. Not everyone can afford the good stuff but hey, maybe you've got money to throw around which is why you feel it's so "dirt cheap". Most of the rest of the populace do not.

It's idiots (and I SO wish I could use the words I want to use right now) like you that drive some of the more vulnerable people with weight issues even DEEPER into those issues.

Just who the He|| do you think you are?!

Lazy, ignorant? You have NO frigging CLUE what it's like, obviously.

Yeah, obviously I'm overweight from this reaction. You know what, it' NOT because I was lazy or ignorant! Health and other issues got me to this point and I have been TRYING to undo the work of DECADES that those issues did to me. What, you think everyone who is overweight LIKES it?! Get your head out of your overly ego-stuffed behind. You have NO idea the damage people like you can do to someone, ESPECIALLY a teenager, better yet a teen girl who already THINKS they're worthless because they don't look or act right. Or who has self esteem issues already, or who has health problems or whatever else is going on. Actually people like you help drive these girls to suicide because of attitudes like yours. And not just teens, but some adults too.

FYI, you unfeeling jerk, I wouldn't want an unfeeling, unsympathetic, vile POS like you for a father, who obviously would only love me if I fit your narrow views of what's good and right and perfect.

Even HEALTHY, athletic people should benefit from exemptions like I suggested because with every other bloody expense we have, why should going to a gym cost hundreds or thousands of dollars when everyone is so frigging gun ho about pushing exercise anyway? Make it more available and more would use it, not the ones already in healthy shape and with cash to burn.

Please don't bother to reply to this as I'm sure you'll just lower yourself further into middle school mentality and vomit your "opinions" which at this point I really don't want to hear.

Until you have BEEN in these shoes, you have NO room to say jack about it.

It's my fault you're fat?

Those foods are the cheapest you can buy. Maybe you need to leave the moon and come down to earth to buy cheaper foods.

When it comes to acceptance or even tolerance of others' opinions I'll mark you down on my list as "doubtful"

It seems there's a few people who are a tad slow at "catching on". BUT I guess we weren't all born smart!

1 box of Red River Cereal $3.98 at Wal*Mart (They ship nationwide for free) = 34 breakfasts @ 12 cents a pop and has only 150 rib sticking calories. If you want to indulge and add teaspoon of sugar, that will add another 16 calories (2 cents).

In the first three days of eating Red River, you'll **** out 10lb of intestinal crud that makes you feel like ****.

Sooooo? What's for lunch? A 10 cent coleslaw and a 22 cent 100g banana (175 calories) and a loooong list of vitamins and minerals.

We are at 40 cents now ($12.00 per month), I wonder if I can afford a chicken breast (280 calories @ $2.00), steamed carrots (27 calories @ 25 cents) and some penne noodles (200 calories @ 20 cents) smothered in a low fat herb, garlic and cream sauce (125 Calories @30 cents)?

Calories for the day = 973
Cost for the day = $3.21

That's under $100 a month

What's your excuse now?

It sure makes you wonder about these people who try to tell you it costs $700 a month or more to feed their family.................of course when you price out the junkfood isle in Safeway you know why! The delicatessan is another good place to steer clear of. A lot of sh*t there preserving a lot of crap.
