I don't think anyone would care to ban guns if they were owned and used responsibly. But often they aren't to the detriment of others. The focus should be on stopping that bad owner from using a gun irresponsibly. I think we're almost at the tipping point now where it is in the best interest of everyone to carry a hand gun for protection and a shotgun for home defense.

Banning guns only takes them out of the hands of the responsible. The criminals will continue to possess them and use them anyway. Besides that we have a right to protect ourselves from oppressive regimes of government also.

Oh for God's sake, Obama is hardly setting up a dictatorship, He is in fact,
changing some of societies rules, in order to give a voice to more Americans.
For far too long the whole place is being run by a very narrow group with deep
pockets, that is not a conspiracy its just, a fact of life and every time someone
changes the rules there is a lot of noise that comes with it.

Hmmm! deep pockets - loud noises ... the hollow drone of the ruling class and their blind minions.

Great vid Ironsides. The lady put it plain and clear. We have the right to defend ourselves from all events and especially from a tyrannical or oppressive govt.
You know that living document you so glibly made fun of. You just acknowledged and supported the Second Amendment to it. Which of course is the most contentious and the best example of the "living document" concept.

Way to go!!!

Wonder why it is criminals somehow manage to keep their weapons. So far there is no mention of turning in weapons already out there, but how far can that be behind, at least long guns mostly are not registered. Obama is starting to equip. the military for riot control.

http://obamaclock.org:80/

Criminals who use/carry those types of guns usually end up on the receiving end up a Cop's firearm.

Really, who needs a Dragonov semi-auto Sniper Rifle? Or a TEC-9 (criminal favourite)

I can understand handguns to an extent but a lot of these weapons are basically military purpose.

Stretch, are you simply paranoid, or do you have a whole LOT of delusions? You obviuously have no grasp of American legal systems.

The Democrats (or any other party) can't impose any form of gun ban, nor did they try to. So long as the Constitution of the United States allows the people to own and bear arms, the legislature can NOT rescind this.

And why has someone brought this dead old horse of a thread back to life?

Under the current 'signing statements' and 'executive orders' the 3rd ammendmant is the only one left standing...

That is why the 2nd Admend. is still valid.

They are doing their best to put an end to it though.....look at what happened after Katrina, they went around and took everyone's guns away. I think I would have had to quote Charleton Heston.."from my cold dead hand"

So far, Obama did not take away anybody's guns the way deluded right wingers thought he would do - nor is he going to do anything like that. As usual, right wing conspiracy hysteria turned out to be quite wrong.

Only because he doesn't dare.....now that is a fact!

God help the Bill of Rights if he gets to appoint a couple of more judges to the SC.

The patriot act and a few 'signing statements' have aready made the bill of rights almost completely void with just a word from Obama. He doesn't need the SC judges.

Yeah, well.........void no.

are they in violation?

Yes.

it would be very, very nice to see a President that actually read the Constitution.....in this case the Fifth Amendment concerning military trials.

You do realize that a US citizen can be declared an 'unarmed combatant' and suffer rendition (no habeus corpus, no lawyer, no anything) for participating in a peaceful protest against the government.

Remember W's response to the bill of rights and the constitution...'it's just a piece of paper'. It is unfortunate that the government, including Obama, has this attitude.

Obama, George W., Clinton..........none of them had read the thing, or understood it, or cared.
