Not too fat to die, murderer is executed

LUCASVILLE, Ohio (AP) — Ohio executed a 5-foot-7, 267-pound double murderer on Tuesday who argued his obesity made death by lethal injection inhumane.

Richard Cooey, 41, died at 10:28 a.m. at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility, said a spokeswoman with the state attorney general’s office.

There were no immediate reports of difficulties finding suitable veins to deliver the deadly chemicals.

Cooey’s lawyers had argued that his weight would make it difficult for prison staff to access a veinCooey, who killed two University of Akron students in 1986, lost a final appeal earlier Tuesday when the U.S. Supreme Court turned down without comment his complaint that the state’s protocol for lethal injection could cause an agonizing death.

Cooey is 75 pounds heavier than when he went to death row — the result of prison food and 23-hour-a-day confinement, his lawyers said.

I'm too fat, therefore it would be inhumane to stick needles in my fattness to dig around for one of my fat veins. The prison food and being locked up most of the day made him gain weight?

Bullsh*t, I don't hear of any other guys on death row gaining 75 pounds before being killed, so it can't be the food. And one would think he could do some pushups or situps in his cell..... he had plenty of time to kill.

Chances are he tried to get fatter so he could pull this stunt and avoid death by lethal injections.... didn't work.

And I love the whole fight of inhumanity on them..... someone who killed two people in probably even less humane ways then how he was being killed.

I would probably do the same if I was in his position, hoping that my bowels explode on the guards after they pump me full of toxic chemicals.

Guaranteed that you would have seen death-row inmates ballooning in size if he had been successful with his appeal. So, I am quite glad that he was not successful in his appeal.

They could always bring back the guillotine if they are so worried about missing a vein.;-)
